What happened? I just wanna chat about some rock artists.

Anybody read Hammer of the Gods, bout led zeppelin? They did some crazy s**t. And who thinks Hendrix and Jim Morrison commited suicide or not? I read an article in Rolling Stone that sortof implied that Morrison knew he was gonna die. But in the movie Hendrix, he didn't seem like he'd wanna die. What's up with all the early death in great rock artists? SRV, Bonzo, Kurt Kobain (we know what happened there), Hendrix, Morrison, Keith Moon, Janis Joplin, etc. etc. It's too much.

plane/car crashes in a few instances: SRV, Buddy Holly et al, Skynard, and others.

everything else comes down to substance abuse

Speakin bout books, if anybody likes a funny realistic fiction book and is in to music, you should pick up Wishbones by Tom Petora. Great book.

Ever hear of the self fulfilling prophecy?

SRV - accident...
Bonzo - live hard, die in puke...
Cobain - suicide due to self fulfilling prophecy...
Hendrix - conspicuous consumption of items that can kill you...
Morrison - meh, wino in a hot tub, **** happens...
Moon - depression and alcolholism, a dangerous mixture...
Joplin - see Hendrix...
Entwistle - cocaine and **** stars, a true rock and roll death...
Buddy Holly - one poor decision too many. A great artist but should have known better than to fly in a puddle jumper in arctic conditions.

In the end it is the death that made them icons. Do you honestly think the Hendrix or Morrison would get the acclaim they do if they had lived? Morrison was washed up and washed out. Hendrix was most likely about to leave rock and roll and move on to more avant pursuits.
