I would have to say that seeing Lamb of God and Shadows Fall together was an amazing sight. Lamb of God has some amazing guitarists. The guys in Shadows Fall aren't bad either

Newbie and late comer here, but I'd have to say guitarwise:

Dimebag (Vulgar Display tour)...didn't really like anything after that
Edge
Josh and Troy (QOTSA)
Hammet/Hetfield
Kim Thayil (Soundgarden)

It's obvious you havn't bothered to listen to much from the artists you're bashing. I can see why many people don't like Malmsteen, nonstop shred, huge ego, but Satch and Vai write such incredible music that it's hard to see why people don't like them. Even if you don't like them, you can at least appreciate what they do.

I'm not personally I huge Slayer fan, I only own one of their albums (Reign in Blood). Having said that I gotta admit they are a force to be reckoned with live. I saw them on the Clash of the Titans tour in '91 with Alice in Chains, Anthrax and Megadeth. They played after Megadeth and made them sound like Blink 182 in comparison. Heaviest band on Earth.

Er, I recommend seeing Unearth play then. They take these other guys out to the carpark & give them a really good kicking in the guitar stakes... Plus you get behind the head sweep picking and over the shoulder guitar swinging. Top entertainment (much, much better then LoG live, who I found boring)!

I wouldn't knock Iron Maiden, although I'm not a Jannick Gers fan. They really know what they're doing live, as do Judas Priest.

Slayer are always good - total consistency, and, as has been mentioned, punishing. I've seen them 10 times or so.

Nile take this to a different level. I love this band, live they're amazing - stunning musicians.

Tool are hugely consistent too, and always sound absolutely immense. OK, not as technical as many, but the sound that they get is monstrous. I can also say that Neurosis are close in this respect, but way more nasty.

Sunn O))). Hmm. Never seen anything like that before in my life.... Mind blowing.

(note: I don't really go for the guitar hero thing. I'm into the overall effect...)

Dream Theater live 2004, that was some serious guitar-masturbation

Just as I said "where is he now?" he appeared right in front of me and tore it up for about 45 seconds FOR ME. I say 45 seconds but it seemed like both an eternity and a blink of an eye. I was literally 8 inches from the man, face to face. It was the most incredible experience I've had at a show.
I'm glad he played and impressed--very cool that he played in front of you

When I saw him in January '92 he was terrible--he failed to play a single song all the way through. I was disappointed to say the least

Cool

I would have to say Local H (and this was back in 1996 or 1997)…. the only reason I say this is the fact that he did the whole guitar/bass thing. The band did not have a bass player… so he mod his guitar with one of the split p (fender bass) pickup (it was set below the low E and A strings) and then another jack out for them. He ran that line, I think, to an octave pedal (low) and into a bass amp. So- he had bass going with this playing…. It was neat to see.

Also, other bands I went to see that I love guitar work on: The Smashing Pumpkins (Melancholy Tour), Tool (Laterals Tour) and Coldplay (the X&Y tour), Stone Temple Pilots, and the Moody Blues (main guy had three amps going behind him- Mesa, Fender, and Marshall).

I saw this local band one night, they are called Illinois. My cousin showed them to me, and took me to one of their all-ages shows. Since they weren't drunk (they have a song that is the true story of them cleaning out a bar) my cousin said it was one of their best shows. Now, let me explain some things about this band:

1. their lead singer sometimes playes a Banjo

2. Their lead singer also sometimes sings through a telephone

3. they have one of the best drummers I have ever heard.

they are kinda like Radiohead on anti-depressants gone semi-country

the show was just amazing, I have seen some of my favorite bands ever, and these 4 guys blew them all out of the water.

by the way, the recently got signed, so you may hear of them sometime soon

I caught Iron Maiden, Motorhead, and Dio a couple of years ago when they played in Maryland, and while I'd still love to see Janick Gers spontaneously combust a la Peter "James" Bond (sorry, semi-obscure reference for fellow Spinal Tap fans), it was a pretty amazing display of metal to see all of those guitarists on the same stage that night!

Also, I've seen George Lynch a few times (post-Dokken fame) in small clubs, and even if you're not into 80's **** rock, that guy can REALLY play.

Honorable mentions as well to Frank Marino, Robin Trower, and Johnny Winter - who still managed to pull off a great show, despite looking like he was at death's door.

What's with all the hate for Janick?

avenged sevenfold for me best guitar wise both zacky and synyster shred awesome together. Specially when they stand next to each other cos zaky's keft handed and synyster is right handed so they face away from each other. Its truly awesome

When McFly supported Busted on their arena tour. Specifically at Wembley.

That was pretty immense. Me and all the teenage girls wooing them on. Good times.

Sorry 'bout the Janick bashin', dude.

No offense meant - I just find both his playing and his live antics to be an acquired taste. Then again, he's in Maiden....and I'm not. So I'll shut my piehole.

I was only curious why Janick, Adrian is the one that messes up the most.

Then again, I'm a die-hard Maiden fan, as my "title" indicates.
