Who out there is using Cubase?

Anyone know where to get a cheap upgrade from the LE version?

I use cubase and have for a long time! its the best!! ive produced extremly high quality audio with it! and without the added cost of buying into the pro tools family!

and pro tools is the best... no body denies that i mean its the industry standard.

but it cost so much more for what i need!! a 12 track mixer is like in the 2000's i cant afford that!! lol

so ill stick with cubase

You should really buy your DAWs anyways... I don't look at the software industry like I do the music industry.

+1. Besides, if you can't afford Cubase there are great free and inexpensive options available to you that work great: Repear and Audacity are both available and are excellent for home use. There's really no need to resort to cracked copies.

Reaper costs $40 or so now, but it's amazing. It's what I use for my music exclusively. It's über simple to learn, and the UI is terribly efficient. Plus, it's a little lower on system overhead, which is why I switched from Cubase in the first place.

audacity is absolutely useless, REAPER is great but there's nothing free available to do anything like what ableton live does. I have a legit LE version and a cracked full version, i'm not proud but so it goes.

I am never going to be able to afford the full version of cubase until i'm working. I don't represent a lost sale by any means and i don't feel bad about it.

That rational is skewed to say the least. Just because you wouldn't buy it, doesn't mean you should take it and use it without buying it. It's not about lost sales, it's about fair compensation for labours. Better not to use it all than to just take it without paying for it. Why this concept seems okay with non-physical goods (software, etc.) but doesn't seem okay with physical goods (you wouldn't take a car off a lot and just use it even if you hadn't intended to buy it and justify it by saying, "hey, I can't afford it so I don't represent a lost sale") is troubling.

Especially when there are free and nearly free (I'm sure you can find $40) alternatives available that, while not as great, are more than adequate (and getting better all the time).

Because when you steal a car, that DOES represent a lost sale; the car dealer now has one fewer cars.

I do use reaper, i don't use cubase, there are no free Ableton alternatives and when i'm working, i'll buy it.

Many software companies have 'educational' price products which rely on the principle that the first DAW (CAD, whatever) program you use is the one you will continue to support. I'm reasonably certain this is true of Cubase.

Although get Protools

And if you got caught just as you were putting it back? It's a slippery slope...

Just for the record I was looking for a legal upgrade. Steinberg seems to have had the same offer for a couple of years. One for $200 and one for $400. If I was going to spend $400 I would be thinking about Pro Tools.

BTW, if you seach Limewire for Cubase (and Pro Tools for that matter) programs there are a ****load available. Being an anarchist at heart, I'm tempted. But it seems that every other time I download anything from Limewire I get the pleasure of also being infected with the latest Trojan which annoys me to no end.

forget limewire man, it's not safe. If you want to go down that slippery slope of a road you need private torrent trackers
