I don't know, really. But his last reply in this topic says he reads the board now and then:

I've seen him about now and then, not as constant as he used to be though.

Well that was well timed wasn't it.

Ahhh great to know

First of, thanx for this thread that was started way back when . . .

. . . i do have a lot of questions for you, or anyone else for that matter who can answer my n00b like questions, as i am very new to this genre. In fact, i got into trippy ambient music because i was (and still is) looking for diff ways of adding some atmospheric soundscapes to my Doom tones, as aposed to just flat out fuzz tones, all the time !

OK, so i actually read all the posts in one sitting now - yes, it took me a little while to do so !

Questions :

Everyone talks about how good the Rat(s) will be for this type of genre, and that a mids-heavy TS808 will not work.
What about the T-Rex Mudhoney OD ? I am not sure if it is a tubescreamer clone - i do not think so. I am asking, 'cause i might be getting one soon.
.........................
Also, does anyone own or tried the new'ish MXR MC-402 ?
Yet another dirtbox (OB & Boost 2-in-1) that i might get soon.
.........................
Within the 1st five or so posts you guys talked about how good the Roland BeeBa sounds, but the thing now cost an arm and a leg on eVilleBay, and that it's clones is just as expensive !
Since that post, no one ever thought of the Barge Concepts Co. that makes an "affordable" clone of the F100 BeeBa, the BB-Jr. Thought i'd mention it.
.........................
There was also alot of talk about volume predals, but starngely NO wah pedals got mentioned ?
Is this not a popular ambient piece of gear ?
I am looking into the EB Wah, and wanted to know what you guys thought of this wah !?
..........................
Also, ambient effects that never got mentioned, and yet again, this n00b thought it would be a great adition to such a pedal board, it both the EHX Voicebox & POG, but strangely, no one has mentioned it in 21 pages. Are they that bad, or am i trying to see a use for them where there is non in such a band ?
.........................
And, there is not alot of love for phasers in these 21 pages !?
Again, not really an ambient/spacey band type of effect ?
Still, i am trying to incorporate one into my music.
I am looking for one that can go real slow, not too much into the faster choppy stuff.
Where can i start to look ? Moog 104 ? Phase 100 ? I am open to ideas.
.........................
And lastly (for now), i am looking for a WARM sounding reverb for my reverb'less Bassman. I take it, an all analog unit is the way to go ! I would love to have the Fender out-board unit, but it a wee bit too expensive right now, even used !
Anything else i can look into that will be luch and warm, and maybe even with some other features too ? Holy Grail Plus, perhaps ?

. . . is there any other effect that i am over-looking that might be important to include in a "must-have" ambient, spacy soundscape Doom board ?

OK, that is it - for now . . . and again, thanks for everyone's input to all my n00b-like questions, but hey, i have to start somewhere !

I'll vouch for the POG as an ambient effect. It sounds like an organ, and works great with volume swells.

As for your question regarding wahs, I think they're mostly just used as filter effects in this type of music (if at all), so I wouldn't be too concerned with one wah being more suitable than another.

The sound of a wah isn't one i've ever tried for what I do. Maybe you'll find something new, maybe it'll sound awful

As for phasers, for ambient there's more of a tendancy towards tremolo, vibratio/univibe, rotary, those kinds of modulation. Again, maybe you'll be carving out new territory!

Thanks for the feedback guys !
Say, another unit i forgot to mention is the red Whammy4.
Does any of these bands use a Whammy - at all ?

Thanx . . . and keep 'em comming !

I think one of the popular pedals is a boss harmonist-delay thing that pitchshifts your delayed signal.

So pitchshifters do get used. I'd certaintly say there's place for a whammy; even just as an octave down for those floorshaking drones.

If anyone is interested, I know a great trick for doing some very ambiernt things with guitar.

On your reverb unit, there is usually an option of dry/wet mix. If you can, remove the dry signal almost completely, or with just enough dry left to retain some attack definition. With the settings in this way, you can do all sorts of creepy echo and splashing reverb sounds. It's very effective when mixed with a phaser or flanger to give a creepy "something lurking in the dark" sort of effect.

Alesis Reverb Questions | Longest Reverb Times? | Shane?

I'm re-configuring my looping rig to make room for a new piece of gear (the mighty Korg DL8000r! Delay/Looper - to compliment the equally mighty Korg AM8000r!) My rack drawer, along with all the goodies that I had on it, will need to be replaced with their rack counterparts. This means my trusty Alesis Wedge will need to be replaced with a similar Alesis product to get those long textural verbs.

Here's my question. Out of ALL the Alesis Reverb units, which has the longest reverb times? Midiverb I, Midiverb II, Midiverb III or Quadraverb? I've ruled out the Midiverb 4 and Alesis Q2 already since 30 secs is the limit for those boxes. Even the Wedge could do 99 secs!!!

For reference, I run Alesis Plate Reverbs set at the longest possible time running 100% wet.

Anyone?

What does 99 seconds of reverb do if you need to change notes?

I love those super long delay settings, you play for a minute and a half, and then all of a sudden, everything you've been playing comes crashing down on the heads of your audience in this massive avalanche.
