Favorite Moment (in a song)

So, what is your favorite moment in a song. You know, your listening to your favorite song and something happens that makes you go, YES! that was amazing.

I'll start: Band: Menomena
Album: Friend and Fo
Track: Muscle and Flo
Moment: 2:20 when the organ comes in! I about passed out when I heard that for the first time. Every time I hear it I get chills.

smashing pumpkins
album: siamese dream
song: silverf***
at the end of the previous track, there is a random clip of audio playing where a woman is saying "um....well, it's kind of hard to talk about.....but.....instead of getting physical, he just ends up masturbating himself, and it's....uh....really come between us." and right on the end of "us" that huge riff starts off. It's oddly moving.

Everytime I listen to the album and that drum intro start I curse Steve Albini to high heaven for that drum sound.

I hate to be the guy who mentions the Beatles, but:
Beatles: White Album.
Dear Prudence, when the drums come in to the first chorus, it just feels bigger than life itself for some reason.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor: Yanqui U.X.O.
09-15-00 (Part 1), 6:20-around 10:00 when that strange lo-fi reversed sounding bit stops and there's a few seconds of near silence, followed by the single most ominous melody that has ever graced this earth, which then proceeds to build... You'll know it when you hear it.

Menomena: I am the Fun Blame Monster!
Cough Coughing, when the flanged drums pan left and right... Also, when they cut them in and out with what sounds like a DJ's crossfader. They do it a few times throughout the song, and it's awesome every time.

Ralph Myerz & the Jack Herren Band: A Special Album.
A Special Morning, when the the organ line comes in for the first time... Check it out! Do it!

Amon Tobin: Supermodified.
Four Ton Mantis, when that piano comes in for the first time. I still get goosebumps every time.

There are way more, but these are the ones I can remember right now.

true (and the bass line there doesnt hurt either)

there are countless parts in songs that get me off but the first one that came to mind is The Afghan Whigs' last track on Black Love entitled Faded. after some lovely L Train samples (i think), falsetto oooohs and ahhhhhs and a perfect piano riff Dulli sets it all off with the spoken words...."straight up"
great intro to a great closing track

Band: Genesis
Album: Nursery Cryme
Song: "Return of the Giant Hogweed"
Magic moment: When Steve Hackett's harmonized fret tapping resolves into a single nasty picked note at the end of the intro. It's so rockin'!

Band: The Stone Roses
Album: The Stone Roses
Song: "I Wanna Be Adored"
Magic moment: The volume on the bass riff creeps up slowly, until the *CRACK!* on the snare, and then that John Squire guitar riff comes in. Holy crap, every time I hear that, I get chills.

Band: U2
Album: Boy
Song: "An Cat Dubh/Into the Heart"
Magic moment: Specifically, I love the bridge between these two pieces, when the drums more or less drop out, and there's just two elements left: Adam Clayton's throbbing, one-note bassline, and the Edge's shimmering guitar. It sounds like it's being played in a silent cathedral. In space.

Band: Drive Like Jehu
Album: Yank Crime
Song: "Here Come the Rome Plows"
Magic moment: When the guitars are holding sustained octave chords and Rick Froberg yells, "Yeah, we're on/Yeah, we're on..." and then there's a drum fill and the guitars rip right back in for the screamed line, "THE RECEIVING END!" It's heavier and angrier than I can ever imagine any metal song ever being.

Band: Wire
Album: 154
Song: "Map Ref. 41°N 93°W"
Magic moment: As soon as the band hits that first chord in the first chorus is great. What a magnificent key change!

Band: Joy Division
Album: Substance
Song: "Atmosphere"
Magic moment: I love the outro, with those weird reverberated chimes as the drums really pick up the beat on the toms. The keyboard melody conjures up this really wistful vibe at that point, and as the remainder of the song is instrumental, it feels really significant that such a feeling is evoked at the point of the song where Ian Curtis is no longer singing. Very moving!

Wow great responses so far. Great Post.

Band: ISIS
Song: The Beginning and the End
Album: Oceanic
At 04:58
It's right after a quiet part in the song that lulls you to sleep and then wavers of feedback start and finally 2 huge snare cracks and then the fury begins. Epic!

Band: Drive Like Jehu
Song: Luau
Album: Yank Crime
At 06:50
God this part is amazing. It's such beauty after grinding repetition. I love it.

Band: Explosions in the Sky
Song: Birth and Death of Day
Album: All of a Sudden I miss Everyone
At 05:24
I can't even properly summarize this. It's so beautiful.

There are a lot more. These are the reasons I love music. It's all about the reward in a song.

+1 for the drum intro to "Bone Machine", and I'd like to add its spiritual sequel; the drum intro to Nirvana's "Scentless Apprentice". I idolize Albini for his production.

Dinosaur Jr.
"No Bones", off of "Bug"
approx. 0:36
Lou goes into some higher notes on the bass that just sound perfect. So bittersweet. His playing on this song is the cherry, whip cream and hot fudge on this already wonderful and heart-wrenching song.

David Bowie
"Breaking Glass", off of "Low"
The whole intro with that paranoid, bendy guitar lick. Brilliant. This album is full of moments like "I don't know how Bowie thought to put that there, but he's a genius for doing it".

Pixies
"Hey", off of "Doolittle"
The solo for that song is just perfect. Santiago goes in and out of being pretty and nasty, and by the time he kicks on the gain full stop with that classic Santiago-bend, it just keeps you on the edge of your seat. Then Charles tops it off with that "UGH!", and it all goes quiet again. Hair-raising. The fact that it was all cut live (except Kim's vocals) makes it all the more amazing.

Melvins
"With Teeth", off of "Lysol"
The whole song is great. Big acid-rock chords; it sounds like reaching the end of a long trip (which aurally, it really is for this album). Then it all goes evil again, and ends with Buzzo chanting these lyrics, then it just ends the album. I remember listening to it in my car and parking and turning off my car right as it ended; it spooked me out a little how it just ends. It really tops off the whole album.

Sonic Youth
"Junkie's Promise", off of "Washing Machine"
Start off with that ear-piercing feedback (natch), and the riff alongside the lyric "A hundred dollars used to be more than enough" and then it hits that hideously ugly chord.

Husker Du
"It's Not Funny Anymore", off of "Metal Circus"
Any Husker Du chorus is fantastic, but I love this one for the little riff Bob plays with harmonics. Came straight out of nowhere first time I heard it.

I know I wrote a lot, but this thread got me really excited. Great idea.

That's awesome--I almost put the exact same bit in my post, but I opted to throw "Rome Plows" into the ring instead. Good call, though!

And by the way, I just want to say that I find this thread incredibly refreshing. I mean, we're obviously all gearheads to some extent, but isn't it nice to just talk about good music for a change? My compliments to the chef (Zora350, I raise my martini glass to you).

Instead of listing obvious choices, like "Creep" when the guitar crunches into the chorus.. I'm going to discuss the biggest offender.

A rock and roll song with so many moments, that it would have to be deemed an instant classic.

Band: Kingsmen, The
Album: The Kingsmen In Person
Track: Louie, Louie
Moment:

0:07 When the keyboard player reaches the E note in the intro with such half-assed determination, the song officially identifies itself as the "greatest song of all time."

0:58 Rock and roll shenanigans have hit a fever pitch and the band knows this, as someone caught up in the song shouts out what sounds an awful lot like "f*ck!"

1:29 The singer has had it and commands that they the band "GIVE IT TO THEM RIGHT NOW!" Them being the listeners. This moment alone was a great milestone in pop culture, as those in the food service business would begin to order each other around by saying, "Ok, let's give it to 'em, right now!"
