Metallica's Big comeback video!

Well, having spent the last 15 years of my life as a fan (mainly to perpetuate a sense of irony in my life) of the early metallica offerings (mainly And Justice, Master of Puppets, Black album), I found myself today on pitchfork, and lo and behold. New metallica video! From the rick rubin album you say? Could this be a return to classic metallica? Gritty, thrashed out and actually heavy? You be the judge:

http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/articl...at-never-comes

Im pretty sure this song is about one of two things:

Prison sex (ahem, and I quote, "Love is a four letter word, in this prison")

or

The difficulties associated with jumpstarting a 1977 yugo.

Again, Ill let the masses decide. I will add one caveat. I think Metallica turned into a bunch of pandering label puppets, who must seemingly be running out of money. Someone should tell them that it was trendy to try and cash in on the war 4 years ago, now it just makes you look like an asshat.

Nothing to add.

And about the song. Yes, it definitely sounds better than the stuff they have released in the last 10 years or so, but that doesn't say much.

They used to say stuff in interviews about how they could fart into a microphone, and someone would buy it... perhaps they should try that instead.

Admittedly, this new material doesn't seem to be the worst thing they've ever done, but still... I think they're just past their prime. Metal is inherently a young man's game (unless you're Slayer). They should retire and go their separate ways.

James could go off and write country tunes and get caught in the blast from incendiary devices at the CMAs instead; Lars could collect paintings and, uh, do whatever else he does these days; and meanwhile Kirk could start releasing solo-collaborative albums (a la Santana) where someone else does the work of writing and playing the song so that he can scribble all over it with his still enthusiastic lead playing.

Damn right.

Nothing against Robert, but he didn't play on any of their classic albums, so I've never really viewed him as a real member of the band. Kind of like Pat Smear with Nirvana.

While I wouldn't call this new stuff groundbreaking, nor even close to that, but it's WAY better than St. Anger. I'm actually a little bit excited for Death Magnetic, as it has some promise.

I might be proven wrong, but right now, I'd buy it.

(That said, I know my girlfriend is buying it for my birthday this month, so at least if it sucks then it wasn't my money. )

If you find a tab of acid in there take it.
The further back you trip the older it is. If its a bad trip then you know its from the 80's.

Meh, I've heard some tracks of the new album, and I have to say..it doesn't really do it for me. It just seems a worthless try to get back to the awesome they once were, instead of going forward. I don't know..it's just not for me I guess I prefer Testament or Slayer in the classic trash metal camp \m/

Alex Skolnick is rad as hell.

The problem is these riffs sound like the riffs they didnt use when they were writing Master of Puppets and ...And Justice For All. Most bands repeat themselves, but they dont usually TRY THEIR ASSES OFF AT REPEATING THEMSELVES. And they certainly dont call it a reboot for their career.

Also, did anyone else notice how hard Kirk Hammetts solo sucked in this song? He sounded like Kerry King with a traumatic brain injury.

Skweedly skweedly skweedly skweedly mah mah mah mah skweedly mah skweedly mah( Oh yeah I have a wah pedal!) shickawahwah shickawahwah deedledeedle shickawahwah *horrible chromatic run that the producer should have cut* wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah bendy bendy bendy

Thats pretty much hammetts whole career right there.

Like I said, he's one "collaborative" solo album away from becoming the next Carlos Santana.

I've heard the album, I wasn't impressed, but I've already been told (by Metallica fanboys) that it's "the best album this year".

I should point out that these are people that didn't say "What the f*ck?!" upon hearing St Anger.
