Tyranny of Souls

As a huge Maiden fan, I got Bruce's new album as soon as I got out of college.

On initial listening, it's awful, but then you realise it's not an Iron Maiden album, and shouldn't compare it to Dance of Death. It's a much darker and heavier type of music, much more focused on the lyrics than the music, so it lacks the Maiden harmony riffs and relies more on powerchord riffage. Track two "abduction" is a great slice of modern metal, and if you listen to the album as a whole, you'll forget that Bruce isn't half the songwriter as Steve Harris, and sit back and enjoy the music.

In all it's the best album Iced Earth never made, and the one Shadows Fall wish to make.
