crybaby only "wahs" for about 2/3 of pedal travel

Hey everyone,

i picked up a cheap crybaby on craigslist and did the mods from this website: The Stinkfoot wah mod

they definitely made the wah sound a bit "sharper", which i like. However, they didn't fix a problem that existed before the mods: with my heel down, i can start pressing the wah and don't hear a change in sound until about 1/3 or 1/2 of the way through the sweep of the pedal. Then, the wah effect occurs very suddenly.

i imagine this has to do with a bad potentiometer, or one with an incorrect taper. i plan on replacing it unless someone has any other ideas. do any of the resistor mods affect this? and are there any worthwhile pots that don't cost $20?

thanks!

Play with the mechanical sweep range. It should do the trick and is quite harmless.

Selling BOSS FW-3. I live in Brazil, mind you, so prepare yourself for $30-ish for shipping and waiting. Local pickup available, along with beautiful beaches and cheap bitches.

YES. I found this with the standard crybaby too, and it drove me nuts! asatbluesboy's link offers some really useful things you can try, but I think you've hit on a foible of the pedal that's just part of the design and I don't know what workarounds will solve that particular issue. I've had a little more luck with a Vox wah than with a Dunlop, but it's a more midrange-y sounding effect which might not be to your tastes.

good call. adjusting the travel of the pot helped, and the wah sounds great clean.

however, it sounds like **** when i crank my amp (modded epi valve junior). kind of like it can't cut through. why does it seem to act so strangely with the distortion from a cranked tube amp? any suggestions?
