Rackmount Equalizer

I'm looking for a rackmount equalizer for my guitar. I don't need one with an on/off switch and I'd prefer not to pay over $150 (but wouldn't we all). What are some suggestions? Oh, and I don't mind getting a used one. I'd rather have a good used one than a new one that sucks. Thanks.

hey i have both a dod graphic and a behringer graphic eq in my studio, (i'm guessing you're looking at a graphic).

you'd better better looking at studio/recording/live sound sections of sites rather than the guitar, as it is used more in those areas. also they then would be line level or balanced connections. but it as i'm guessing you're applying it to the fx loop in your amp/rack set up you would need an unbalanced line level unit, from experience the dod has less noise than the behringer and the studio i have access to has a nice yamaha in.

but do you really need a 31 band graphic as you would only use the middle third for tone shaping.

could you please confirm that it is a graphic you want rather than a parametric, as it would make answering your post a lot easier.

and just incase you're unsure of the difference between the two, a parametric is pretty much an advanced form of high, mid and low on an amp but you can move the frequency of each one, and change how wide on the frequency range is for each control (known commonly as Q) and a graphic is pretty much like eq stompboxes but with more faders, usually being 31 faders at a third of an octave, or 15 to make it stereo in one unit. any less than that and you can get it in a stomp box.

it really depends on what you're using it for.

I'm not really sure which one it is. I just want something like an Equalizer pedal would be but I wanna be able to put it in the rack so it won't take up pedalboard room.

even on the 15 band eq there are some frequencies that dont have any purpose for a guitar rack (in the lower range). not sure if the 31 band goes lower/higher than the 15, or just has finer gradiations but if so thats something to consider.

the 31 band is split up into thirds of octaves, and the 15 band is 2/3's of an octave to a fader.

So which is better for guitar? I have a 10 band Boss EQ-20 pedal and a lot of the same frequencies are on it as well as the 31 band.

I have one in my rack, and I really like it. It does its job, it's pretty transparent, and the hi-pass and low-pass filters are pretty handy. I've had it a year or two now with no problems whatsoever.
