Free Software Plugins
Sorry for all the recording threads, I just need to get going...
So.. I know free plugins are easily available for recording, like here .. But what I wana know, is are they better than the stuff that Cubase LE comes with? I also have some focusrite stuff that came with my interface, but haven't enabled yet (my recording comp isn't connected to the net..) Basically, what's my best option for things like compression, EQ and reverb? (other stuff i wouldn't mind hearing about, but I'm interested in the core stuff at the moment)

It's really hard to say. It's a mixed bag and your best bet (unfortunately) is to go out there and try everything out, maybe see if you can find reviews.
http://www.soundonsound.com/forum/sh...fpart=1#294031 here are some I use fairly regularly: General plugins, the free ones are marked 'free' next to the name http://www.voxengo.com/downloads/ 4front vst instruments, non-sample-based piano, bass, rhodes http://www.yohng.com/ Guitar Suite - great sounding amp modelers http://www.simulanalog.org/guitarsuite.htm Gvst, another set of general plugins. GTune is indispensable http://www.gvst.co.uk/index.htm

What's your sequencer?
Do you use any freeware plugins over your sequencer's stuff?

Bump!
I'm sure more people must know about this... also, what's a convoluted reverb?
