How does this work?
Hello everyone,
I have a cheap keyboard I record with using it's MIDI out (or in) and I was wondering if a sustain pedal plugged into the keyboard would work when recording MIDI. So would it?

I don't quite get what you are doing, are you controlling it with midi then recording the result or recording the midi signals from it into something else?

Sorry, this is the signal:
Casio keyboard- MIDI to USB plug - Reaper recording software. The program processes the signal to MIDI. I know a sustain pedal would work when playing the keyboard normally but I don't know if it would work when working with MIDI. Is this any clearer?

Oh ok,
Well it would depend on how everything's routed within your keyboard, but I suspect yes it would work if it does just controlling itself. The MIDI messages coming from the output should be the same as what goes to its own brain and the sustain pedal would just affect the note length so that should be passed on. I'd just try it, nothing you can hurt doing that really |

works with a proper midi controller, no reason it shouldn't here

yes it will, sustain sends on/off data [0 or 64]
so yes it's fine

the only thing that might slow you down in making this work is if you have to edit the MIDI CC for the DAW you are using if it doesnt recognize the sustain pedal. but either way it should work. i vote yes !
