Playback help
Where do I connect my headphones so I can listen to playback?

That's what I assumed to, as would most people...but then when I play the playback from my computer I don't get anything; only sound from my PA speakers [I hook them up to my computer so that I hear playback through them].
The headphone jack only gives you audio from whatever is plugged into the mixer at the moment. |

OK how about you actually explain what equipment you are using so you can get a thoughtful answer?

Ahh...you've got 2 sound cards then. One is your recording interface, one is either the built in card on your computer or some soundblaster type card hanging off the back.
You need to plug your headphones into the recording interface card. If that card is something like an M-Audio 2496 than it doesn't have a headphone jack. You need to run it's output into a mixer and use the headphone jack there.

This is what I'm using:
Behringer Xenyx 2442FX; stereo outputs connected into the inputs of a Behringer UCA200 U-Control which is run into my computer's USB port. Kustom KPM4100; stereo inputs [cited as 'playback' on the KPM4100] connected to the outputs Behringer UCA200 U-Control which is run into my computer's USB port. |

OK the Kustom KPM4100 has a line out jack. You may be able to put your headphones into that (Although an external headphone amp may be needed too) (The dual RCA record output would also work this way).
Why not plug the output of the UAC200 back into the 2442 FX? That way you can specify what you are listenting to through the headphones from the desk and send it to the Kustom KPM4100 from the control room output of the desk. Quote:

None of these solutions seem to work.
When I run the UCA200 output into the 2442 FX I don't get any sound from the headphones or the PA speakers. EDIT: Nevermind, I got it to work by running the Xenyx input into the UCA200...and then I started hearing the playback through my headphones. Thank you! |
