Pro tools interfaces?

I know I'm asking alot of questions in here lately, but I am clueless as far as hardware goes. Ok, so I'm already looking at mics, and I plan on picking up a used PowerMac G5 to do the dirty work, but I can't really get my head around what goes in between the computer and the microphones. I tried Digidesign's forums but I can't figure out where to look. I'm looking for something that I can plug up to 6-8 mics into since I'm going to be doing a lot of drum recording, and Line level inputs from DI boxes, and also MIDI. I don't really want anything with sliders and knobs like a mixing board because I plan to do that on screen.

Moo is an unknown quantity at this point
Depends on how much you have to spend. This is on the lower end of the spectrum, esp. used. 8 preamps/inputs.

Really if you're planning on spending a lot of money and don't really know what you're doing, why not go with a studio?

Probably because it costs about $1000 for 5 or 6 songs at a studio and I can spend a little more than that and be able to do it myself and take my time.

you could get a digi 003 rack and a cheap adat recorder connected by a light pipe to expand for inputs.

I really like pro tools , but limited hardware options are the only downside.

For $400 or less, Tascam makes an 8-mic interface with line-ins and MIDI, and it's bundled with Cubase LE. Pro Tools is indeed "The Standard," but you're looking at shelling out major dough for an interface with that many inputs that will work with the program. For a novice, Cubase is enough, in my opinion. Or anything else in Cubase LE's price range.

just so you know, i've used protools in the past so i'm pretty familiar with it, just not with the individual hardware components that you need to get it to work. the last setup I used was an HD system in a studio but I didn't build it, and I only mixed on it after the tracks were in.
