Tweeter damage?

So...I had younger family around, and my left moniitor tweeter (Tapco S5) has been pushed in; much to my annoyance.

But will this actually affect the monitor more than just visually?

Please let me know!

A/B the left and right channel with frequencies that only use the tweeter. My guess is yes. You'll notice a drop in the range of the damaged tweeter. And it will alter the projection characteristics of the tweeter -- you won't have the same wave pattern emerging from the left as a the right so high frequency sounds will (falsely) seem unbalanced.

Iv heard taking a very very very small pin and trying to pop it back out works with little to no sound diffrence but I havnt needed to try it.

If it's been folded in then the cone will be creased and that's irreparable, but you might not notice the difference in sound quality.

If you just want it to be popped back out for aesthetic reasons then use a vacuum cleaner. Just get the nozzle and hover it a distance away from the cone and bring it steadily closer until it starts to move, try and keep your hand as steady as possible and don't make direct contact with the cone or you risk ripping the whole thing.

Would 'sucking' it out make a sonic imprvement, since it's closer to the original form? (though i know the creases would still have a bit of change).

I can't actuially AB it at the mo, since my interface is at a friends house from some recording we were doing, but I'll try that; though when i do, how do I AB it? evrything comes out stereo.. (sorry-noob Q i know).

And I'm very scared to put a pin through that!

Use a tone generator program to create an even tone sweep. Something like:

Run it through your interface to your monitors. Pan the tone left then right to isolate the monitors. Run it dead down the center with good physical separation of the monitors to see if your left and right ears find any noticeable differences in sound as you sweep through the spectrum.

Cool...Thanks...Will do, once i get my interface back...

..any ideas on if hoovering the dent out will help at all?

I'm not sure whether or not it will improve the sound of it to be honest.

If all else fails then you could always poke the other one in so that they suck evenly
