Ampeg V-4 question....
Allright-
I have a late 60's/ early 70's ampeg V-4. Lately I've been blowing fuses fairly regularly, and the last time I replaced one the head had a pretty strange sound comming out of it. A bit muddy and kind of a bit of 'clipping' going on. Any idea what this could be? I'm usually up on my amp maintainence, but I've been out of a job for a bit and can't afford to have it looked at by my tech. Any ideas would be helpful.

Before you do anything else replace the output tubes. If you have one extra tube around you could probably swap them out one at a time and isolate the failing tube if that is the problem but don't use the amp after that. You would now need to replace the quad set and adjust the bias. Don't run the amp very long in this condition.

Thanks a lot for the advice. I've been using my Sunn Model T instead of the ampeg. Looks like I'll be running that till I can get it re-tubed/biased. Thanks again buddy.
