Guitar building/Lutherie question

I've been building guitar bodies for my own personal guitars for about a year now. Recently my big kick has been laminated bodies with 2-4 different woods. I'm on my 7th one i think, and I have been pondering the possibility of doing a design based on the Zakk Wylde bullseye graphics. I'd probably use a combination of walnut and hard maple for it. I haven't decided yet, I was looking for opinions on if it would even be feasable since the glue seams wouldn't be running paralell to each other. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Personally i don't see why it wouldn't work, seems to me like it would be a stronger fit more than anything.

Alternatively, why not do it as inlay, make the majority of the body in one wood, route out the gaps for the bullseye and inlay the other wood. Not sure if this would be more or less effort though.

Good luck! sounds like a neat project.

that's a much better idea. I might do it as a drop top. It would be much easier than as one big chunk.

Seal any gaps with epoxy and use a thick finish. Laminating woods can be tricky.

I don't foresee any gaps. I'm in no hurry with it. I'd rather get a tight fit than rush through it.No matter how I construst it, I will be using a clear satin nitrocellulose lacquer. I always use nitro on natural finish bodies. very rarely do I use a poly unless I'm doing a fender type body or a solid color. I do nitro on fender some of the time too.

You should keep us updated about this project as you go. I personally cant wait to see pictures of it, love some nice woodworking, and it sounds like it'll look great when its done.
