help for filling in stripped holes in guitar!!

hi,
i want to do some minor repair to my guitars by fixing some of the screw holes that have been stripped out. some just turn and don't stop turning while others like my strap button screw just keeps loosening itself out (which is definetly a problem). i feel confident that i can do this repair myself, i just need some advice on how i should go about doing it and what kind of wood putty would be the best for this situation. in case this helps any, my guitar is a gibson les paul, so you know the woods that are involved. thank you so much.

I've had strap lock screws come loose on two guitars. Just break off a toothpick or two and put in some elmer's wood glue. After that, the screw will go in nice and tight. No more problems for me so far.

You could also try Epoxy or wood putty. I've had good luck w/epoxy, which I used to fix the stripped neck, pickguard and strap button holes on my j-bass.

I'd go 30-45 hours.

Well, that's my professional opinion. If you're talking about epoxy, 30-45 mins is enough for sure, but Elmer's glue? The stuff you used in school and the weird kid ate? Also, wood filler is not meant to be structural it's for prepping before finishing.

word....maybe he used another type of glue? who knows. but im sure it wasnt anything too exotic...cuz he had to have used some type of wood glue. who knows. im going to give it a whirl...good thing tho! its with my tele so i can let that sit...i dont necessarily need it for practice.

Back before I did stuff myself i had to take a guitar in when my strap buttons pulled out, and that's what they did. I've done it numerous times since, works great. Also if you get a new set of straplocks they'll have longer screws on them so no toothpicks required.

What i do is put aluminum foil, and pack it into the stripped holes. and re-screw. the only problem is that you can only take the screws out and put them back in a couple of times before you gotta pack more foil in. Or you can just not take your guitars apart.

I have toothpicks in all my guitars and I never let them set for any length of time. Just put some Elmer's on a toothpick, inserted and put the screw back in. Done. Has always held like new.
