I've been trying to convince the guy who designed and built that pedal to do a run for general consumption. I think it'd sell well -- it's pretty dang unique and incredibly flexible. If you're comfortable with a soldering iron I can point you at the schematic -- he's made it freely available over at diystompboxes.com.

Unfortunately I'm not most building-oriented of people. One of my friends though has alot of experience messing with electronics and audio equipment, I'm sure he'd be fascinated in making his own pedal, and maybe one for me .

So, have you ever used/owned a Devi Ever product?

Like an insane Fuzzed-Metal tone ?

Then DEF look into the DbA Fuzz War

Maybe even a Fuzz War into an EHX Metal Muff, for that OTT fuzzed-out matal insanity !

Yup. The first clip was a Devi Ever Disaster Fuzz (the one with the wah, backing track). And I had a Truly Beautiful Disaster that spent more time in repair than on my board -- I eventually returned it for a refund. The store offered me another one but I was sort of burnt out on fuzz at that point.

OH MY GOD. That's amazing, is Son of a Bee the name of the pedal? Also, is your tele with single coils or humbuckers?

That's with a single coil.
There is a clip on my home page of the Son of A Bee with Humbuckers here:

The Son of a Bee pedal is absolutely fantastic. Amazing how massive it sounds on single coils...I have a Gibson Les Paul and a Fender Highway 1 fat strat ebcause I love the single coils on the neck piostion for clean channel and gor gritty rythms, never managed to get a lead single-coil to sound right though.

That pedal makes it sound right .

The most distorted sound I've ever heard comes from a synth:

Howitzer

It's not much, and forget more than a few notes like this, because it will sound awful if you try to play something on it (I tried, it sounds awful), but I guarantee it's about the more brutal metal sound ever.

I agree that that's strung out distorted, probably a little too muc in the context of what happened to the signal. I love the way the Son of a Bee makes the note sound a bit staticy without much of an electronic sound to it.

By the way, thanks to everyone, I've checked out all the examples and have picked up a much better grasp on what's out there.

You see from my example I take it, that too much distortion is not really a good thing? Indeed, I've said before the Greeks referred to it as "The Golden Mean", which was the concept that everything has a perfect balance.

Pure, 100% distortion is a square wave, and as I've said earlier, it sounds very weak. I hate playing the Axel F theme, it never sounds quite right when I play it, but if you can ignore the piss poor performance, here's an example of as close to 100% distortion as possible:

Axel F

Definantly I uderstand that concept, there's always a cliff to something. In fact, I was reading a while ago a producer talking about how the punchiest and most powerful playing will be alot cleaner then you think, too much distortion can take away from how hard the note hits. He said something along the lines of "often times I'll wish the guitar was cleaner, but rarely do I wish there was more distortion."

The key concept I was trying to nail down was fuzz over pure breaking up of the note. Loved the pedals that were suggested.
