What a difference an EQ Pedal makes after your gain pedals!!!

As long as you start out with something that sounds good to begin with, you can simply add or remove bottom end, top end, mids, whatever with the EQ.

I highly recommend trying an EQ pedal before continuing down the never ending road of buying and trying more gain pedals, especially if you’re just chasing that last 5%-10% of your tone. I made my Guvnor Plus sound like a Rectifier in about 5 minutes.

If I receive any new gain pedals as Christmas gifts that’s just fine, but I’m through buying them myself, until I search out the limits of EQ first.

You are so right. I have used a Boss Metal Zone into the cleab channel of my Mark IV for quite some time to simulate my Triple Rectifier tone. I recently placed a Boss parametric EQ pedal right after the MT 2. I brought back some mids on the MT 2 and dropped off some presence for a hard rock sound similar to a Marshall JCM 800. When I activate the parametric pedal with a boost in presence, and scooped mids, i get that modern gain tone of the Rectifier.

I like to use my MXR 10 band to either fine tune the sound of my DLS, or big muff, or to dial in a great clean sound. Ideally, I'd like to get 2 of them so I don't need to change settings.

With the Boss EQ20, you can toggle between a manual setting and a saved setting with your foot.

I only liked my muff before I tried it with my eq - now I love it. I was mad for the smashing pumpkins 'everlasting gaze' tone - muff can do it with the eq. awesome

Same here . . . love my Big Muff with an MXR 10band directly after it.

Boosting both the mid range and the low end . . . really does it for me !
Transforms my NYC RI into a Super Muff

It's the same size as two pedals, and you can't run two EQ settings simultaneously, like you could with two individual pedals.

The Boss EQ20 seems like it would be really cool. I have never used one, but I can really see its advantages. To be able to switch between various settings, you can really turn a good amp into a really versatile one.

A couple of years ago almost everyone on GG had a Sniper Modded EQ on their board. After that most of the new members started pushing boutique dirt boxes and now some seem lost.

Everyone should try an EQ one their amp. Oddly enough, since I don't have any FX loops on my main amps I don't use EQs anymore.

I think the sniper mod died out because people couldn't be bothered to buy a boss then pay extra on it. I know my behringer pedal is cheap but its noiseless and gets the job done very nicely for 15 quid new

I thought it was because Kevin stopped offering it.

The real question is, why buy a boss just to mod when you could just buy a better pedal

Have you really used one of these?

That's an awesome Parametric EQ and I'd take that over my Sniper Modded PQ-9 in a heart beat. Would I actually use it in a stage rig? Probably not.
