Just got the new My Chemical Romance disc

Quality CD. I don't know how to really describe them though. Sort of Goth-y punk with a lot of emo mentality. Some very cool guitar work especially the classic solos that you dont usually find in this type of music. It's a very very slick album, the producer (Howard Benson) really used the studio to its full potential. There's a lot of creative use of mix order and tons of very lush overdubs. Not a live sounding album at all which is ok since MCR is an exciting live band.

It's punk music. It's supposed to suck.

Hey State, could you do me a favor and do up a must have CD list of modern punk. I'm trying to catch up seeing as my collection pretty much stops with the death of grunge, so I'm a little out of date.

I got Thrice, liked them.

I got Thursday, didn't like them.

NO POP PUNK AND/OR MALL PUNK!

I kind of like the tone, it's very punk rock.

Ok I'll try to make a list here

Alexisonfire
My Chemical Romance
Rufio
Funeral For a Friend
Grade
Jersey
The Bronx
The Used
Everytime I Die
The Fullblast
Thrice
Thursday
Misery Signals
The Getaway (these guys are what pop-punk would be if it wasn't ****, they're from Ontario and they are really cool dudes....they know how to drink)

These aren't straight-up punk bands for the most part. A lot of them lean towards metal, hardcore or even, GASP, emo (Rufio).

My Chemical Romance are a disgrace. They are one of the current 300,000 bands with the same songs, same style and slightly different image that I can't even begin to express my feeling about tactfully. So I'll stop right there before I seriously offend anyone.

dude...nobody here is immature enough to get offended because you don't listen to what they listen to, especially daisy and I. You can say whatever you want. I'm even willing to read through a list of the 299,999 other bands your talking about so that I can go buy their CD's.

Well if you can't tell on your own which bands are playing 'punk' and 'hardcore' influenced music that has little or no sense of the following things:

originality
melody
harmony
structure
production
purpose

Then you're probably better off not knowing.

....I'll tell him not to type so fast next time, maybe you'll catch on.

Not only do you guys have really poor taste in music, but you also are offering up a really lame approximation of wit and sarcasm.

You should really try harder when writing a response in defence of a band that cannot be defended.

No, actually on second thought you guys are right, I'm a slow mother ****er for not listening to generic mall-emo. I think I'll go buy a studded belt now.

If you check the above post, you'll notice that my lame wit and sarcasm didn't include an attempt to defend a band that cannot be defended.

And after rechecking State's posts, he never defended them either.

I've actually never heard of them before this thread.

I also don't own a studded belt or Van's shoes. Nor do I "low-ride" my pants (ask State, I've made fun of him for doing it).

Considering that you're the "slow mother****er for not listening to generic mall-emo", I kinda wonder how you know so much about what they sound like if you don't listen to any "generic mall-emo"?

Poseur.

After my initial deconstruction of MCR in this thread, the tone of your posts has been extremely defensive. As a person in a defensive mood, rather than defending a style of music you seem to really enjoy, you have made a couple of extremely weak personal attacks against me based on something even less than conjecture.. But I understand this, knowing the position you are in

Your position: Someone who comes across as an impressionable (or potential) fan of lots of abominably ****ty, worthless music (like say, most of the bands listed by State)

My position: Someone who pities you.

In conclusion: I want you, in bed.

Actually, I just said all that stuff because I was bored an looking for entertainment (although, I have actually made fun of State for sagging his pants).

My half-witted attempt at wit was my entertainment. I really should be more mature.

I just like to listen to music. Some of it's good, some of it isn't.

You'll get to know me better if you stick around for awhile. Just to be so quick to slam others music on this board. It's not Harmony Central, we don't work that way around here.

I'm letting this conversation die now, seeing as it probably shouldn't have happened in the first place.

Although, in my opinion, I am good in bed.

Rock on.

I'm not too concerned with defending any band's music. That's what I listen to and if I'm a mall-core pawn latching on to current trends so be it. At the very least I'm happy in my ignorance of "good" music and not trolling message boards cutting people down because their tastes don't line up with mine. Sorry to waste your time with my lame post, next time I'll keep my opinions to myself so you aren't forced to read about bands you don't like.

P.S. Daisy, also check out As I Lay Dying, you've probably heard of them already but they are a solid group and worth a listen if you haven't.
