I think everyone knows what guitars and amps he uses, but Josh is especially secretive of his pedals. I remember not long back in Total guitar when he was getting his Maton 'Betty Blue', he said that he can't tell anyone what pedals he uses because "They'd cost more and become harder to find", which I understand.

If you watch the 'Little Sister' video, you'll see some quick clips of his pedals, but don't blink or you'll miss. From the sound of most of QOTSA's song, i'd guess their lineup would include a Big Muff and an MXR Micro Amp, otherwise, i'm oblivious, but I'm eager to know too...

I have read he is secretive about what he uses because he believes everybody should find their own sound or something like that.

I remeber in one guitar magazine it showed his live rig and it only had 3 pedals and a couple of different ampeg amps.

The pedals were a Boss Super overdrive, Way Huge Delay and a a/b box to switch to a tuner.

But as far as what he uses in the studio it's anyones guess. Big muff definitely makes sense though and he may not use it live cause of the lack of definition. I remember Billy corgan (smashing pumpkins) saying that even though he used Muffs in the studio, they didn't use them live cause the sound would just be a mush.

Lull..

I saw Queens live this week and I tried to get a look at his rig. All I could make out was an ernie ball volume pedal and a boss tu-2. I saw some giant red pedal and another pedal on top of his amp but lemme tell you this. He uses about 10 pedals now cuz there were a lot more than 3. I've seen live videos where he has only used the volume pedal and a boss sd-1 but he definitely has a lot more pedals these days. Also, he's primarily using those Maton betty blue guitars now. I couldn't figure out what amp he was using now cuz he ripped the logos off of all of them.

troy uses a couple of pedals built by dave main at www.stompboxes.co.uk . that awesome bass fuzz off the last lanegan and queens records is a meathead fuzz.

i've seen homme's pedal board (years back though) and he had a boss tu2, sd1, way huge delay, cheapo volume pedal and a green boss pedal without any markings.

it's not really the pedals that will get that sound though - more a combination of guitar, amp and fingers.

That sound has nothing to do with fingers, its too fuzzed out to actually have any "finger tone."
It will however be tough to get that tone without using one of those matons or a similar guitar.

This topic has been answered as well as it ever will be. Josh Homme doesn't discuss his rig with anybody, so all we'll ever do is speculate. It'd be better to speculate in the same place than start another 1000 threads.

Remember the Adam Jones threads we used to get? Now I'm feeling nostalgic.

no, Josh Homme is using a lot more pedals these days, I saw. All it takes is one person with a good camera and we'll know, atleast for now.
