1st post need help

Hey all. This is my first post , but let me say this is a really great site for info and help. Now I have been playing guitar on and off for the last ten + years on and off(mostly off). For the last year or so I have been didicated to playing and practising for hours everyday. I have got a new guitar and amp but no effects. Here is my question. I have a dual boogie and want to enhance the clean sound(too dry) I know a reverb would help but don't know with adding a little chorus or delay might be better.I play everything from classic rock to Slayer and everthing in between. My guitar is an epi goth sg with an active emg 81 on the bridge and like I said before my amp is a dual boogie.Basically want to know what pedal effects are standard or essential.
Thanks

Welcome to the board!

I'd say reverb and delay are the most essential additions to a good amp.
Try an EH Holy Grail for reverb and possibly an Ibanez DE-7 for delay, both popular choices with very good sounds.
Also, for practicing a delay/loopsampler combination (digitech X-series digi-delay or Line6 DL-4) is very convienent since it allows you to act as second guitarist as well.
(I usually record a rythm part on the DL- 4 and play a lead line on top of that)

Just my two eurocents though...

reverb or delay is a good way to make it sound bigger
if it's a dual recto you have, you're gonna have to use the loop because it wouldn't enhance anything when put in front.
you might get level problems if you get a pedal.
you might consider a rack.

I need more info about your amp and its fx loop basically.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. It's a 3 channel dual boogie with solo boost and fx loop.

I'm not familiar with the loop on those. you need to ask a user who's got one

An EQ is another option for expanding the tone and flexibility of your clean channel. It is also a useful tool for any musical application. I use a Boss GE-7 (Sniper) with my Marshall JCM 2000 for just this purpose. The clean tones I get out of the amp are amazing.

screamingdaisy is on a distinguished road
EHX Small Clone (for chorus) and a DigiTech DigiDelay.

I've had problems with effects distorting in the effects loop of my Rectifier, so if you have the $$$ you might look into rack based effects, such as a lexicon MPX1, or a TC Electronic G-Force.
