i own a MT-2 and i get a good sound out of it normaly (not as good as other distortions i tried and couldnt afford). i got the MT-2 for free so i cant complain. but when i threw an eq pedal in there it suddenly became chunky and thick and bassy and realy good. i dont realy want a new one. thats my MT-2 story. and it is the cheapest thing i have in my line up. next to my amp. that was also free.

Just sticking in my two cents. Even if you are that guy, I'm glad to see that are making a positive change. you wouldn't be the first good "reincarnation."

my favorite guitar is a 90$ peavey milestone
i love my free traynor 2x15cab from the 70's no matter what anyone says, I've always been able to depend on my digitech rp300 (even in temp extremes) and it sounds so heavy through the traynor cab. 75$ all tube combo or 100$ peavey renown from the 80's

All my pedals on my regular board are pretty cheap, really. So are my guitars. And my amps.
I think i get an decent-ish sound. I'm happy with it and i gig and record with it and people like it, so i guess that's enough for me, really. I'm sure there's "nothing like" playing a vintage '50's Strat through a load of boo-teek pedals and a classy, pricey valve amp, but there's "nothing like" walking on the moon, either. In my lifetime, i'll probably do neither of these things so i might as well stick to what i know. I love cheap stuff. Mind you, if i was minted, i'd probably like expensive stuff, too. But i'm fickle. Fickle and poor .

there are very good cheap pedals out there. but a grunge into a cranked solid state? just awful. I used to own one BTW.
def. the worst example to open this thread!

Digitech RP100A is a bang for your buck multi-effects unit, IMO. It has everything you need to start out with some cool feature like amp modeling, Whammy effect, etc. Too bad the noise gate is complete ****, IMO. Oh well, only $100 for these features!

of course you must consider this: danelectro pedals are cheap and they sound terrible at least in my opinion. and boss pedals run much higher but hey, the boss sound better. now if you could buy say, a boss phase shifter for like 80$ you got a good deal. i guess what im saying is if it sounds bad it isnt worth your money period. i dont typically buy cheap stuff though. cheapest thing i have is an eq i got for 20 bucks. im also a bit of a tone freak so i try to get as high end as possible without shoveling out too much coin
