am i stupid for wanting to sell my EHX DMM for a line6 dl4?

i really am thinking about selling my dmm for a dl4. as good as the dmm sounds, i hardly use it and i reallyyyy want a lot of the features the dl4 has. mostly the looping a la dave knudson from minus the bear. i'm in a 2 person band and i loop a lot on my dd-20, but it's lacking because once you step on the pedal, the loop is gone forever! i want something that i can loop later and have different options for looping. also, in my band's set, i only use the dmm once and it's just a standard 400 ms delay that gets put on in together with my dd-20's stereo delay at 800 ms with overdrive and then later i turn the overdrive and dd-20 off and it's just clean and dmm. my band's link is http://www.myspace.com/dearfriendsband for anyone who cares/wants to listen to give me suggestions.

Pardon my flippant response but are you insane. Trading in a DMM for a line6 Dl4, which will inevitably break in months is the dumbest idea ever. I would keep the DMM even though you are using it minimally, cause you will regret it. If your after looping i would go with the Akai Headrush. I have relyed on mine for my years and it sounds wonderful. If you have some coin go the EHX 2880 route. I love mine. It does everything you requested come from a looper and more.

I had a written a similar (albeit less abrupt) response earlier but thanks to the incessant "site is too busy" message it got lost.

To sum up my previous response: don't do it. The DL4 has more than a few flaws and quality control issues. Plus, as a looper it's only barely more usable than the DD-20. Why don't you invest in a looping-specific pedal like an RC-2. Or my favourite: a JamMan. A proper, dedicated looping pedal is so much more than a sample-and-hold type deal. You really have to try one to appreciate it. They make making and using loops a pleasure, not a hassle. Hold on to the DMM and get yourself a proper looping tool and you'll be much happier than compromising on a so-so delay, barely usable looper that is the DL4.

DONT DO IT!!!!!!

if anything, keep it for a few more years, then sell it for more money and buy two dl4's

however i dont reccomend that either.

i just remembered that i have a bass head sitting in my basement that i can sell for a couple hundred bucks :]
i've thought about a pedal just for looping, but i want more on the fly stuff opposed to pre-recorded parts for live use. this is what i want to be able to do:

Interesting. You'd have to try them out to find out. I think the RC-50 is your best bet for recording and triggering a few loops like that.

my dl4 hasnt broken yet, this is going on a few years. the early ones though....look out!

and the looping pedals, all of them mentioned in this thread, i think are kinda crappy. everyone mentioned lack feedback on the loop, meaning that all the layers just stack and sit there on top of eachother. and that is fine sometimes but at other you want to be able to control when they will go away. the only loopers on that market that do that are the boomerang [preset amounts though], the maneco [try finding one], a digital echoplex [badly out of date in many other ways] and the ehx 2880 [which is ok if the preamps were not ****, still better then a rc/jamman but still ****, and it only KINDA has feedback]. i think the repeater does it as well, but that thing is so flakey it is near impossible to say if it can do it without crashing twice.

i need to mod or sell my 2880, its impossible to use with my guitar sound, too much bass sends that thing into a frenzy.

in the end both dmm and dl4 are a dime a dozen. there are so many out there that if you are unhappy with your choice you can probably flip it and get close to the cost of another one with ease.

its also completly amazing at destroying the bass content of your guitar sound [ friend of mine uses both it and the rc-50 and constantly swears about how much bass he loses when he samples with the rc-50].

I still havent tried one, i see no point as they have the same preamps in them as the rc-20, and that did not agree with my guitar sound at all.

the akai headrush is looking more and more interesting to me. i need to just go play that and a dl4 sometime. can someone tell me more about the akai's looping stuff. can it do on/off loops and what other stuff does the looping do? like i guess you can do half/doulbe time looping and reverse looping with the dl4?

no, you can loop and shut it off. no tricks with it at all. its a great looper for just plying over but worthless for anything else really.

i wouldn't loose that DMM man.

get a stand alone looper like everyone else said! i have a RC-20 and i personally LOVE it. so easy to use and saving loops is very very hand.

i really really dislike the DL4. allll my friends have them and i just loathe them. sound like crap, and the looping feature is useless.

the Boomerang is sweet. Charlie from DMST had one when i saw them live and it just seemed like a great looper.

but don't get rid of the DMM.

PS - that Minus the Bear video is freakin sweet

but a singular looper wouldn't be what i want. if i was using long loops that i'd need to save for every show, that'd be different. but i just need something that'll loop a single part and that i can play other parts over it. i have that with the dd-20, but i want to do more fun stuff with it, such has on/off features etc.
how can you say the looping is useless and then say the video is freaking sweet?! he's using 2 dl4s!
