boost
Hi,
I need to know the better way to boost my ds-2 My idea is to set the distortion of the ds-2 at a medium/low level (3 or 4/10) and, when I activate the boost, play with a hard distortion without changing the sound of my ds-2. Is it possible? Which pedal would I have to use?

theres LOTS of pedals that do what you are asking. What you want is a real clean boost with no gain stage of its own.
one that pops into mind is the MXR Micro Amp... its pretty much just a preamp in a pedal with no distrortion circuits. Also, the pros love to use Eqs......make them flat and just increase the decibles Hope that helps. |

perhaps I haven't explain very well what I want, I don't want something that increases my volume but something that makes my distortion harder.
is it the mxr microamp my solution?

The MXR Micro Amp will make it louder, fatter, and maybe a little harder. What I'm thinking you need is another overdrive to put in front of your current pedal. The two should work together for awesome.

you can't really boost the gain without boosting the volume a bit. here's how your average distortion (like a Boss) works
in -> pre-gain (drive) -> clipping stage -> gain (volume) -> out basically, putting a clean boost in front of it is exactly the same as turning up the drive. you'll notice, when you turn up the drive, the volume increases. therefore, putting a boost in front will also cause the volume to increase. however, if you've never put an OD in front of your distortion, it's worth trying. it is quite awesome, as okassassin said twice.

so if I put a mxr microamp before my ds-2 I would obtain an increment of gain and volume?is it correct?or is it better to use an overdrive to do what I want?

I've just tried an overdrive (DOD 250 overdrive/preamp) with gain maxed before my ds-2 with distortion a 9 o'clock and 10 o'clock, but It didn't seem to boost a lot....

I use Rat II and Big Muff, I set the Rat in front of the big muff and than I have the rat set on light dist (usually dist on 9 filter on 3 and volume on 2 all o'clocks) and the muff on more dist... I think that is what you want to do, put another dist/od in your rig.

You will notice more of a volume increase if you put the boost after your distortion. Running the boost in front of your distortion will make the volume increase less noticeable.
