BOSS DS-2 mods?
I could find both the DS-1 and the DS-2 schematics, but they seemed to be very different beasts internally... I wonder if any DS-1 mods would apply -- or even mods of its own.

I'd be interested in this. In all honesty, as my first pedal, i chose the ds2 because it seemed versatile...and john frusciante used it. but it just doesn't sound anywhere near as phat as his
.So mods would be cool (though i wouldn't trust myself). I thought that mode 1 was the same as a ds1?

They are quite different pedals......... so not all mods that can be done to a DS-1 can be done to a DS-2.........
Never liked the pedal

Tweak with the diodes:
Replace one of the clipping diodes with a (red) LED or a Ge-diode. You'll get more gain and the pedal will be slightly clearer. The DS-2 has some nice lead tones but it's too weak for "riff-playing" (with singlecoil pups) IMHO. |

I don't play through a marshall, so don't know. What guitar are you using? What marshall are you using. I'm far from an expert on dirt & amps, but am happy to try and help.

J&H...the jekyll side is a TS808, the hyde is either a rat or shredmaster semi-clone - I've heard both. the hyde side is meant to be the 'heavy side'. personally, I have the gain low, with a higher volume - it gets nice grit and sounds full and quite clear - i found it got quite weedy sounding with the gain high, but low gain and it's got some nice full bass. I then have the jekyll side set for gain at around 2o clock - nice and dirty. tech 21 - american woman. this is more known as a lead pedal, but i loved it for rhythm - really PHAT sound, but still fairly clear (i think - i tried it about a year and a half ago). but it has an annoying noise gate that mite bug you eventually. - the double drive. I can't really remember this, but I want to give it another go at some point. For frusciante rhythms where things don't have to be heard THAT clearly - ie powerchords - check out a muff. Many of us were convinced he had one going for the chorus of dani california - just put a boost/od in front of it for more bite in the tone, but its a great pedal anywhere. I've recently read here about the marshall gv2 being a good pedal. And you'll find the rart recommended all over this site. Ummm...i don't if that helps any, but it might give you a starting point. If you give more specific sounds that you're after, that could help...good luck.

ok, thanks. i have big muff too and that's not what i'm looking for for rhythm stuff. i consider getting tonebone hot british as a "dirty marshall channel" and combine with with ds-2 for leads, but i'll try more pedals and i'll see

Mods done, the pedal is much clearer and cuts through pretty well. Chords are real chords, and not a mass of indiscernible noise. It also responds to pick attack pretty well, the same with the volume knob. I'd say it's 60% better. Much more versatile now.
Definitely approved.
