Custom AB box?
Hi. I'm reposting this since i realized i probably posted it in the wrong place..
While setting up my rig for coming tours i have come to realize a small problem which is the setup of the A/B box i plan to use. Is there a Box that works in a similar way to what i have so beautifully depicted in the attached picture? http://www.guitargeek.com/chat/attac...itar-setup-jpg It's the only solution i have figured out that will let my delay(s) ring out after i have switched amps but without having the noise of a boost going in to the marshal when its not being used. Any suggestions are welcome! I guess i could have the box built by some company or guy but those custom builds tend to increase the price a bit.. Many thanks! Mac |

Why not simply put the OD in from of the A/B box togehter with the tuner and everything else? Or if you only want to use the OD on channel B put it between the A/B box and the analogue delay.
Like this you won't need any custom built A/B box. |

The problem with solution no.1 is that i will then have to deal with boost (which has a small bass boost and its own characteristics) affecting my sound into the clean head(Which is a 60s vox ac50 and has more than enough bottom end to go around..). The other way around will result in my Marshall humming while i play my clean channel.
I mean, its acceptable while rehearsing but playing larger venues you will not want a buzzing sound in your cleaner soundscapes.. I thought of a solution with a double effect loop switch(1 input-2 switchable Loops- 1 output): Channel A - In to box - through loop A with booster - out from output into amp 1 Channel B - In to box - straight from send B into amp 2 It should work shouldn't it? |

You could probably get a custom built unit that has an fx loop associated with only one output of the a/b, so that it toggles the loop off when you switch away from that output.
Alternatively you could have an a/b/loop pedal made with a general purpose loop inserted before both a/b outputs, with the switches close enough together to stomp both of them at the same time - turning the loop off and switching outputs. I think this would be a more common pedal design so you might be able to buy a ready-made looper/ab box from one of the custom builders. Another option is just to put your OD next to your a/b pedal so you can hit both switches together. I use something like the second option - a looper and channel switcher in one box with the buttons close together so I can turn off the fx loop and change channels at the same time and it works very well once you get used to stomping two buttons. I don't think it would cost more than $200 to get it made (or a lot less if you make it yourself), but there might be a longer wait time.

Thanks for the advice!
I was thinking in those lanes before but I'm not sure if i want to handle the double switch in live performances. Since I'm also lead singer and will have to handle the two tempos of the clean and distorted channels delay pedals. I think I found the way with that Loop switching pedal. it's like 60$ or something so hopefully it might work out. will mail analog man and have a listen. and thanks again for the input guys! |
