Electro Harmonix Frequency Analyzer?

Just tried mine out today, its a great pedal and im able to get some really nice chimey tones out of it, exactly what i was looking for. But could somebody here explain how to make this thing a lil more musical, i know that you're supposed to get it in key but is there any setting where i can just set it and leave it? And i don't really understand how the FINE knob relates to the SHIFT knob?
Could someone help me out here, thanks.

The fine knob is the shift knob with a smaller range-as you may or may not already know, human frequency perception is logarithmic... so basically with this pedal, when the shift is at the top the fine knob will make a huge difference, while if the shift knob is downwards, the fine won't do so much. Mostly I use the shift knob when I want to mess arounda t lower frequencies but as I get up I start using the fine knob instead-try turning the fine knb all the way up and then putting the shift knob up there too-hard to dial in a frequency, ay?
