When I call an Envelope Filter Subtle I'm talking about a Lucky like Shimmer rather than something Funky.

If it's Subtle then it has quite a gently, almost natural shimmering sound, trebbly but not to the point that it's annoying. Something funky is the very obvious Wah type sound, the stereotype Wah Wah Wah.

by the way--thanks for explaining it to me...and now i know what you mean...the funky is where you have the envelope wah bloom that most filters get...then the subtle side is just barely noticable right? yeah you just have to play with its sensitivity and get it just right and i can get it.

You're welcome. The kind of thing I'm looking for is where you can strum gently and get that shimmer but once you're really strumming hard it begins to give quite a good Trebly Wah sound to it. Something quite Shoegaze like.

Oh, I think I know what you mean. That's what I used my Ibanez auto-wah for back when it was my only pedal. It's a really cool sound.

Boovya got the Shimmer out but you didn't so that means he's lucky not you.

yay!!!! booyaka sha

i dont know im still stuck on saying how i think the fx25 is underrated...for someone who wants something just to have a hint of filter to layers then i think it kicks ass for the price. for something really really dominant filter sounding then maybe get something wit more bells and whistles.
