EXH Holy Stain Reverb vs. Holy Grail and Nano

What's up guys? I was just curious as to whether the holy stain uses the same reverb processing as the holy grail and the nano. Can someone give me some feedback on the three. I purchased the holy stain but it continuous tweaking when you want to change settings. I thought the reverb sounded nice though. Thanks guys.

You'd really need to find someone who had either opened both pedals up to repair/check the guts (unlikely, since they're both smd/digital chip so very tricky to repair), or had access to the schematics: Those sorts of people don't tend to frequent this site so much, but you could try at freestompboxes.org: I'd advise using their search function first before posting, it can be irritating for forum regulars when first-time posters ask "where can i get the schematic for xxxxpedal" when there's already a thread about it. I know there was a zip file of almost all current production EHX pedals floating around the net recently, maybe try a google search for that yourself.

EDIT - OK, I've looked at my EHX schematics: That zip file I mentioned above doesn't feature the Holy Stain, but the Holy Grail schematic shows that it uses a CS4811 "Fixed Function Multi-Effects Audio Processor" chip. You could open up your Holy Stain and see if you can spot the same chip - I'd imagine it might well have more than one. Even if it does have the same chip, it doesn't guarantee the reverb is the same, though...

Thanks alot bro! I sent the pedal back anyway. It was pretty good just hard to dial in the sound you want requires alot of tweaking. The verb sounded great though and distortions definately had some beef to them. However, the tremolo and pitchshifter kinda sucked. So I'm on the market for a good versatile reverb now. I'm have too many Boss pedals and don't really want anymore although I here the RV5 is pretty good. Is the Holy Grail pretty versatile? Can it get pretty atmospheric?

the holy grail is a really nice pedal, IMO. Got a nice variety of settings and is still fairly simple in its use.

If you're looking for really atmospheric stuff, you might just be better off with a verbzilla; more options than the HG which tend towards the trippier side of the reverb spectrum.

I still recommend the RV-5's modulated reverb over the Verbzilla. The 'Zilla managed to bore me after a while. [had it for a long time]

The only thing that concerns me about the Zilla is the delay or whatever there is before the reverb...I remember reading several times that something was off about it.

I owned a zilla and don't know what you mean, there is an echo mode, but as far as I remember the reverbs were pretty instant.

He's talking about the pre-delay; the time knob.

no.

The holy grail does what it does really well. But i found it far from versatile.

as for atmosphere, it depends what you mean.

If you one of the add-loads-of-reverb-at-the-end-of-my-chain-and-that-makes-everything-i-play-suddenly-'ambient' people, then no.

but it can do subtle well imo.

Think David Gilmour solos...or Dark Side of the Moon.
