Not the one I have maybe try the MXR Custom '78 Badass Distortion, I really like mine and with an od pedal boosting it I can go from 80s metal scream to a more 90s grunt. I'll admit though, I've never been very certain about what the Marshall sound is since I've never used a Marshall amp, but I can hear some Led Zeppelin or Guns and Roses in the '78 distortion.

Only to realize those pedals were hooked up to the bass!

l2yz is an unknown quantity at this point
i own a nyc reissue big muff and vintage reissue rat.

ive never played any of the famous marshalls so i wouldnt know for sure, but i dont think you could approximate a marshall sound with a big muff. a rat would be closer.

i like the muff fuzz more than rat fuzz. feels a lot thicker and smooth, and the attack is so creamy. i like rats on lower gain settings, very loud and punchy

i play a tele into a vox ac4tv for reference

The smart-a**e response would of course be "pedals can't replicate valve amps so you can't get a Marshall sound out of ANY pedal." but then, I honestly don't know if the 'Marshall sound' is a *real* thing or not! Those classic tones of the 70s were AFAIK often coming from amps that were modded post-manufacture and of course running at volumes that we don't usually encounter any more. I've never been too impressed with the newer Marshall models so don't feel the need to replicate those anyway.

In terms of getting the more general definition of a punchy, crunchy classic rock sound of a valve amp with plenty of grunt and sustain, I reckon a RAT would work better than a Muff. The Muff has some great aspects working in its favour, but ultimately it's a fuzz, not an amp-like effect (interestingly it doesn't sound fuzzy when the gain/sustain knob is at its minimum). The lower regions of the gain control on a RAT on the other hand yield a gritty sound that's rich in mids and helps sustain. Whether or not it gets close to a 'Marshall' sound I don't know, but it can mimic valve distortion better than a Muff. It gets more like a fuzz with the gain maxed and the filter backed off, but its sound is more natural and versatile.

yeah understandable but the flex-wave distortion isn't the greatest either id rather use a pedal, it has more personality

Yeah, the Rat if anything... a Rat into a clean Fender is not going to a nail an old Marshall tone exactly, but it will put you in to the right territory. It will get you a sound that you can use in a situation where a Marshall sound would work, if that makes any sense. Also, by "Marshall" I assume you mean plexi and JCM800 kind of stuff... the Rat is probably more 800-ish if anything.

From your list, just the RAT. Fuzzes don't really go Marshall. A booster in front of the Muff with a lowish gain setting gives you some crunch as well.
