So what do you do when you play a wah? Cause y'know...when you rock it back and forth you adjust the pot...

Sorry if you meant something else? But he did say it's a dunlop original...there's no Q knob if thats what you mean? Anywho...

I hated my GCB-95's sound so I modded it using mods at this site...http://homepage.ntlworld.com/s.castl...enfuz/wah.html

I did the 'sweep range' mod (towards the bottom of that page, used a 0.0033 uf cap...any lower and my wah sounded all staticy and too high-based)

...and I also did the 'vocal mod' (bout halfway down the page. I just did what it said and replaced the 33k resistor with the 68k)

With these 2 mods done, it sounds so so awesome now. It's like lifting the veil from your amp. It really took that thick heavy end off my dunlop and it now sounds like its really crying...which might or might not be a good thing... heh

What i dont like about it is its sweep and the non-true bypass. Other than that, its a good wah.

it is entirely possible to change the pot completely. which is something he could have meant by saying 'adjusting the pot'. no need for intense sarcasm

so try that, try looking online for some upgrade kits. try looking for replacement pots you can swap out.

true bypass it while you're at it.

Adjusting pot means that you adjust the working range of the pot. Following quote explains the operation thoroughly.

Quote:

To lower/raise the working range slightly, set the wah on a table, face down with the battery end towards your gut, and press the pedal down to the stop. Remove the bottom plate and locate the toothed bar that turns the pot axle. Move the treadle up/down a few times, to familiarize yourself with which way the pot turns as you press the treadle down towards the toe end. With a phillips-head screwdriver, remove (or just loosen it enough to turn it sideways) the white plastic flange that presses the toothed bar against the pot axle gears, and release the bar. Now you can manually turn the pot one or two notches back. Viewed from the battery end, you turn the pot towards you (it's clockwise, if you view the pot assembly from the left). There is room to safely adjust it two notches or so before the pot runs out of play.

(quote is taken from following site: mods/Dunlop GCB-95

The are other mod-instructions on that site also.

I have modded and true bypassed my GCB-95. I removed the input buffer also when doing the true bypass mod.

I highly recommend the vocal mod. It makes the wah some much more organic sounding.

I like my modded GCB-95 as much as I like my 535Q.

Which mods altogether did you do to your wah? Does it sound more like a vox now?

Edit: Where did you buy the 68k resistor like said on the vocal mod?

foxrox wah retrofit. It helps wah's cut through the high output of fuzzes. If you have a fuzz, you know what I'm talking about when you cant wah through it. It also makes it a little more vocal through overdrives.

Ah ok...so 'adjusting the pot' means moving the teeth so they turn the pot through a different section? Cool...never thought of that! Sorry guys.

Apart from that, I stand by the other stuff I said in my post. Those mods make a world of difference! The 68k resistor or any other resistors/capacitors/anything electrical like that you can pick up from radioshack, jaycar or whatever else you guys have in the states. I got all my parts from **** smith electronics, but I don't think you guys have one over there?

You might also try sending your wah to Robert Keeley. I had an old Thomas Organ Crybaby that he modified for me and he really worked wonders with it. One of the things you want to make sure that you have done if you get your wah modded is that you have a true bypass mod done, this will massively improve the sound of your rig when the wah is disengaged.
