I Stole a Shredmaster from GC

Ok, I didn't literally steal it but I got a real steal. So I walked into my local Guitar Center just to pick up some strings and in their display case they had a pristine in-the-box vintage Marshall Shredmaster for sale. So I ask the salesperson how much they want for it and he tells me $69. Now Keep in mind I've seen these damn things selling on ebay for $200 so I figure even if it sounds like total ass that I'm going to make a profit on this. So I happily buy it and take it home.

Honestly I wasn't expected much from this pedal considering I have a Rat, a Tonebone Hot British, a Reezafratitz, Fulldrive II, etc... so I have my distortion/OD covered. So I hooked it up to one of my Ampeg V4s and holy moly! It really is an awesome pedal. I was expecting it to sound kind of harsh and sort of like a rat but it doesn't. It's quite thick and juicy without the harsh saturation that a lot of distortion pedals have. I know that Johnny Greenwood has modded his shredmaster but really the stock shredmaster sounds very much like his distortion on The Bends and OK Computer. I like it so much that I may be switching back to the V4 as my main amp my band.

I love unexpected surprises

Dude, I used to live in Raleigh. I moved to Wilmington like 10 months ago, and most of the guitar stores around here suck. Man, what other cool sh*t do they have at Guitar Center? I haven't been there in so long. I know it sounds stupid to be getting all excited about Guitar Center, I just really wish there was one near where I live. Is there anything cool at Sam Ash? It's right across the street from GC, so I'm assuming you've been there.

I hate my shredmaster. It's a terrribly overrated pedal and it's very noisey. Thinking about getting it modded or selling it.

Congratulations, that's a damn good deal. I live in Raleigh too, I rarely see great deals in that Guitar Center, but its always fun to go in and look around, try stuff out. I bought my Les Paul there actually.

I just scored an original Shredmaster for $40 on fleabay.

Noisy? I hear no noise at all with the pedal engaged. Are you maxing out the gain? Any distortion pedal that is maxed will give you noise and feedback.

I think both stores along with their employees suck. I only went there because I needed some guitar strings. I get most of my stuff off of ebay or the rare purchase from Fat Sound guitar in Cary (pricey boutique place where I got my Dr. Z).

I never found that my one was too noisy - I used it almost full gain (with lots of bass & contoured ***low***) but looped out of a Noise Suppressor which makes a lot of difference.

Got the thing back in '94 second hand for about £25 after spending a year borrowing one. Lots of fun, although it's currently my backup in case my Mesa goes bang.

I bagged one in a BIN £20 freak eBay auction. The seller didn't seem to notice it was worth some $$$'s and it had on just been released onto eBay. I received it and it sucked so I dumped it back where it came from and bought a RAT and a crate of beer with the profit.
