Smile Impressed with Boss RV-3 Reverb

I bought an Electro Harmonix Holy Grail. It was the first reverb stompbox I ever owned (I've used amp spring reverb in the past). After receiving it, I can't believe I ever went without a reverb for this long. Also, I thought for the price (cheap off eBay), nothing could beat the sound quality. It was lush, not the least bit harsh, and just plain sounded good.

Then, on impulse (some call it GAS), I bought a Boss RV-3 because it was talked about so much here. When I first used it, I thought it sounded good, but not as good as the Holy Grail. I also was worried about it sounding digital. Sure, it had it's own sound characteristics, but it was still a good sound. But what makes it compete with the Holy Grail (IMO) is the ability to change both wet/dry and the amount of decay. I've noticed that I can still keep a lot of the dry signal in the mix, but can crank the decay for some nice ambient goodness in the background. Volume swells are much more fun with the RV-3, IMO. I like my reverb darker, and there is a knob for adjusting the tone. I usually keep it dark, but I was surprised that the brighter tones are not necessarily bad. I was sure turning the tone knob to bright would make me want to gnash my teeth, but that's not the case. I could see the brighter reverb tones working well with the RV-3. And then there are all the delay options with the RV-3 to boot. Great pedal. Why was it discontinued?

Anyway, I just wanted to share my thoughts on these two great reverbs.

i have a RV-3 too and i love it. i love using the last setting and taking the tone all the way up since it gives a little lush sound.

and about being discontinued, alot of great boss pedals get discontinued. like the dd-5 and the sd-2. i still havent figured out why though...

How much did you pay for your Reverbulator? I can't find prices anywhere, and I don't live near a store where they're sold.

I'm trying to narrow down my choices for a reverb and a delay.

I have a decent amp delay on my Laney, but it's very limited. I've been looking at the Holy Grail and the RV-3.

I have a DD-3 and a Dano Danecho, so I'm looking at a unit with more features, like the DL-4 and the DD-20.

Didn't you mean you had reverb on your amp?

Selling BOSS FW-3. I live in Brazil, mind you, so prepare yourself for $30-ish for shipping and waiting. Local pickup available, along with beautiful beaches and cheap bitches.

i payed 500aud but that was because i got one of the two remaining units in australia...

usually they would RRP for 450

personally as delay feind having tryed countless types of delay to recall...

i would have to recomend

the DL4
The Tc electronics Nova delay
and the MXR carbon copy

as my all time favouriste delays!

i kid you not these delays will NEVER fail you!! see my chain below for the DL4 and the Carbon copy... the other guitarist in my band uses a Tc nova delay and a dd-3

how much reverb does it have on tap?

Right now my fav is a Boss RV-2 for nasty low-fi early rack reverb, a rv-3 for more high fi reverbs and a Boost RVB for other reverbs. Still none of these compare with a good rack reverb.
