When you said "sonically inovative", I pretty much just thought Radiohead. There were some others that after seeing i agreed with, but still, you guys are light years ahead of me in this department.

Good call, man! I don't hear their name referenced nearly often enough. Those guys were amazing.

If no one's mentioned them already, we should probably all punch ourselves in the face. That's a glaring omission... Another good call.

Has anyone mentioned John McLaughlin? I guess he's kind of on the guitar-hero side of things.

An acoustic guitar attracts Casper. A mandolin attracts Wendy. But an electric guitar attracts Beelzebub.

also:

Low-Alan Sparhawk
Danielsen Familie-Daniel Danielsen [nothing if not innovative]
Tortoise
The Sea and Cake
Elliot Smith
Portishead
Talking Heads
Bauhaus [as well as Tones on Tail, D. Ash's other project]
Nirvana
Sex Pistols
Ramones

and how far back are we going on this? cuz there's also:

Nick Drake
13th Floor Elevators
The Sonics [yes, i know they've been mentioned but--THE SONICS!]
The Seeds
Mick Ronson [played with Bowie, Lou Reed, etc]
Roxy Music [invented art rock and goth and co-invented glam!]
Neil Young [solo, Crazy Horse, Buffalo Springfield]
Pink Floyd
The Soft Machine
not to mention the Stones, Samll Faces, Beatles, Kinks, et al.
