a little advice if you please

OK, so I'm pretty new to the whole effects pedals thing. In fact, up until last year I pretty much considered them the musical devil, but now I'm playing in a pretty damn (IMO) band, and my sound is lacking that professional edge that some of the guitarists round my area have, so I feel it's time to work up at least a small effects chain.

We use a lot of synths and keyboard sounds, and like to put wierd noises into songs, and I'd like to be able to use my guitar to add texture instead of being tied to my synth for that kinda thing (at least until I can get that damn third arm transplant). I was thinking about getting a phaser and some kind of delay, but I'm on a budget of less than £200, so I'm pretty lost when faced with the huge selection available at my local store. Could anybody make any suggestions for me? Also, I was recommended the small stone phaser, and was wondering if it was as good as they made it out to be? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What specific types of textures did you have in mind? Do you want wooshes, chimes, rhythmic echoes? Perhaps something more harsh?

A Yamaha Magistomp is replete with atmospheric noise potential and has a fairly small footprint for what it is capable of doing ... but the PC editing interface can be a real pain.

I can make additional suggestions once you provide me with a better sense of the sounds you are looking to make ... and there is also a great ambient equipment guide one of the specialty sections of this forum.
