Try just screwing around with the tuning on your guitar. One of the biggest problems is how Indian music is structured differently. They have 12 tones to an octave in comparison to western music's eight.

actually...come to think of it you can get pretty sitarish with the reverse delay on my DL4...so i'm gonna say flanger and reverse delay...

DD-3, feedback all the way up, really short delay time.

Do some nice droning open chords and octave chords and your good to go.

Maybe... an eq as well, but not really nessecary. Can't see how a phaser or wah works unless you fix the wah in one position, using it like an eq.

you could go really crazy, get some thick strings and tune your guitar to the actual notes a sitar has. here's what Ravi Shankar uses.

1st - .012 - tune to F
2nd - .016 - C below F
3rd - .022 - G below C
4th - .028 - C below G
5th - .011 - G above F
6th - .009 - C above G
7th - .009 - C one octave C of 6th string (7th string optional)
