Octavia...

im really interested in aquiring an octavia pedal... like the ones hendrix used (with the weird up octave effect... i know there are a lot of distortions with built in octavias but is there a pedal that is just a designated octavia? i just want the up octave (not down octaves too)... so is there such a product? a clean octavia?

Wasn't the original Octavia a fuzz itself?

I think the octave up effect must be some characteristic of the fuzz. I don't know much about fuzz but a lot of fuzzes have octave/ring mod overtones, that must be what causes the octave up.

The JEverman Octave-X www.jeverman.com is a Octave up.
I've had one on loan from him, and I was very impressed.

for the fulltone click on OCTAFUZZ. It is an octavia OR an independent fuzz pedal. The Mayer is only the one effect. Tychobrahe made a great Octavia back in the day that was an exact replica of Jimi's custom octavia. The Fulltone is a replica of this one. Both are $170 and are way better than the VooDoo Labs.

Deep Blue builds a clean octave up. It sounds really cool.

I have one of the current Roger Mayer Octavias. You can make it pretty clean though I think is sounds better all fuzzed out. Its a really good pedal, but it takes some tinkering to get the sound you want out of it.

Its actually an octave up, but you have the option to run it, with a mild overdrive/fuzz, but you can also run it clean. I hear he has a newer model in the pipeline which runs with a higher gain, to achive a more fuzzy/heavy overdrive sound.

The J. Everman is very nice, The Fulltone is nice, too.

But if you want the BEST Octavia clone, then get the Prescription Elec. Expereince. Among the studio musicians it is considered the closest to a Tychobrahe.

Ron Sound octave is just as good, if not better than the Exp.

For clean octave, Prescription Electronics makes the C.O.B.(clean octave boost)

The original Octavia was pretty much a very cool fuzz with an upper octave overtone "ghosting"... very different than what a pitch shifter or harmonizer would do in my opinion. The fuzz was just as important as the octave effect.

I have a friend that makes KILLER handmade octavia clones with an extra switch for toneshaping called "Body" (less harsh fuzz, more mids)... it's called the Octaplus and is made to order for $120, shipping included anywhere in USA. Beats the Voodoolabs, comes damn close to the Fulltone and Roger Mayer. E-mail me for more info, and no i don't get any commission
