To reiterate, why play at that point?

It was that, or play acoustically.

I guess palm-muting is just an integral part of my rhythm technique, and I would begrudge its loss at the hands of a piece of gear.

anyway, try some different pedals - eg. rat etc. youve gotta keep trying alternative stuff. but for the record, the POD sounds awesome through a PA.
You've never heard of electric guitars at churh is australia..

I just think that hewre in oz the more "modern" churches are not very popular and often a bit strange so not many people know about them. My friend used to do the sound at one of these churches and they were a bit strange. they used to enforce the tithe even if peope were just apprentices or struggling. I'm glad he stopped going.

Most modern churches, quite frankly, are weird. And I'm not a big fan of these huge-a$$ megachurches either. There was one near a place I used to work that could hold 10,000 people. That's more people than live in the town I call home, and about the same size as the enrollment of the University I attended. Churches, to me, represent an outgrowth of the community. How can you feel any sense of community with 10,000 other people?

No amps alowed? Have you considered a new religion, like voodoo perhaps?

Only kiddin, i love Jesus too but i reckon he deserves pure valve tone and yr church are meanies!

I reckon a pod'd be yr best bet as it can do everything (it's not as sexy as analogue gear but it'll do a great job.)

ive heard of hillsong, but again, no electrics being played in a mass.
however, once at uni a band came and gave a demo - they were called tribal. there's only one word i can use to describe how they came across - soft. all the God talk in between songs and lyrics that i would expect from a 6 year old at sunday school.they were trying to sound all old-school incubus but in the end it just sounded lame.
maybe that is what turns me off overtly religious rock. it seems *****, like God-rock bands are trying to be really ernest, and they make the subject matter so obvious.and i myself am a christian. POD are a good christian rock band but even some of their songs are too explanatory.
im yet to see a band full of christians that can follow in U2's footsteps and make music that is inspired by spirituality and religion, yet leaves the interpretation of the songs up to the responder and does not alienate people that identify themselves as non believers.

sorry for the hijack, i just dont want to appear ignorant to other people's posts directed at me.

rock on!!

I think some kind of POD is the way to go, it's the best "virtual amp" out there IMO. A PODXT or POD 2.0 would work, or if you need to be able to switch to different sounds with pedals, a PODXTLive or a FloorPOD. The FloorPOD is less expensive and probably perfect for your needs:

the new digitech rp350's seem to have most (and a few extras) of the POD's features for only $199 (instead of $399 for a POD).
The one without an expression pedal and a few less modelers is only $99.

I mostly mention the digitech rp's because I think their distortions/overdrives sound more responsive and dynamic than the POD's. They seem to have a bit more life.

Give the Digitech GNX series a look too. You could probably pick up a used GNX3 for $170. I thought it had far better dist than the v-amp IMO.
