Too much noise; need help
Alright...after searching for quite awhile for a metal distortion that I like (been through various amps, pedals, preamps, etc.), I've settled on the Keeley MT2. It has a sound that is absolutely perfect for me, and is exactly what I'm looking for. The problem is: the pedal hisses like a mother****er. Very loud, and it feeds back really bad too. I've been living with it because it sounds perfect, but it's a real pain in the ass, and after trying to do some overdubbing with it the other day, I realized that the hiss needs to go away. I need recommendations for good noise gates and/or feedback suppressors.
The hiss is actually a note (kinda); there's a point of volume that's kind of between feedback and hiss, and you can hear that it's a specific note. I considered buying a parametric EQ and just killing whatever frequency that is, but I want to try noise gates first. The thing is the noise gate needs to work with other gain pedals too; I'll also have a NYC BMP, an Ibanez FZ7, and (in the near future) a customized Indyguitarist Sputter Fuzz in the chain at the very least. So whatever I'm using can't ruin those pedals' tones. Also: when you give recommendations, tell me why you're recommending what you're recommending, and what kind of equipment you've used it with. Thanks in advance!

-greetings-
let me reccomend a boss ns2. i play a ton of metal and i use it with my marshall to kill the noise from my overdrive pedal. the one downside is it cuts off sustain so i turn off the noise gate if i play leads. one noise gate that i would like to try is the ISP decimator. it is said to be the best noise gate availible.

what's your pedal chain like? i run my MT-2 as my first dirtbox so you could put the noise gate after that OR!!!! you could use that sweet sweet loop function on the NS-2 and just stick the MT-2 in it so only the MT-2 will be effected by the gating. sounds like the perfect solution
Sounds like a noise gate will solve your problem, but go for a decent one like the BOSS or MXR one (only the boss has the loop) I've had little luck with DOD and behringer ones.

ATM my chain is:
guitar->whatever synth pedals I feel like using->Boss PH2->Boss OD2->EHX NYC Big Muff Pi->Keeley MT2->Ibanez FZ7->Arion SAD1->Boomerang Plus->Arion SAD1->Zoom G2. All my gain pedals are a little noisy (except my OD2, and it's always on), but the MT2 is definitely the worst. The obvious place for the gate is in between the FZ7 and the first SAD1, which is one reason I want to avoid rackmount stuff if possible; the less cable running back and forth the better. I'd already been considering the NS2 for a couple reasons; it's cheap, it's a good starting point if nothing else (like most Bosses), and it can potentially eliminate my need for another power supply. It looks like that's where I'll be going first, unless I hear some horror stories.

Does the G2 not have an effective (excuse the pun) noise suppressor?

It has a noise supressor that's perfect for some stuff, but not for metal. Also, I'm using it for reverb, meaning it goes after delay, and we can't have the gate cutting off the delay repeats.
EDIT: also, the G2 is only in half of the signal; the SAD1 splits the signal to 2 seperate amps, and one of them doesn't have reverb, so it gets the G2.

from reading past posts on noise gates, the NS-2 is the best bang for the buck. Anything better than that seems to be large price jump away. I have no experience whatsoever with it, as I've always been suckerd in by cheaper clones. However the cheaper clones have encouraged me to give up on noise gates and stop my whining.
