Wacky Whammy Idea
Okay....I'd like to preface this by saying I am AWARE that there is a Digitech Whammy/Wah pedal out there...
That said: I was thinking about my WH-4 last night while practicing scales, and how cool it is, but how rarely I use it. I was thinking how I would use it so much more if it say, had a volume pedal inside of it. And then, I thought, what the hell, you can get circuits to be really smal, what if I had a wah inside there, too! Could I rig up a WH-4 unit with a three-way switch to have normal whammy, and volume, and wah options? I guess the wah idea would be kind of unrealistic if there wasn't much space inside the enclosure... But could I at least get a volume pedal out of the deal? Thanks guys, for responding (or not) to another one of my really hare-brained ideas. Tim |

you could try and track down a discontinued digitech xp-100 whammy-wah as it has all 3 (as different presets)
i have both of them but the wh4 is betterhttp://guitargeek.com/gearview/106/ |

You could just take the Whammy apart, fabricate a new casing for it and then buy a volume and wah pedal and then put those circuts inside of the new inclosure and then hotwire it to three switches that change the job of the treadle from the Whammy.

yeah, that's the idea.
What I wonder is whether you can build a volume/wah circuit small enough to fit inside the existing Whammy box. Does anyone know if the board for the whammy is really big, or is there a Fuzz Face situation with a giant enclosure and a very simple board. Or, if that's not the case, who could I contact about rehousing the WH-4 and adding those kind of circuits? thanks, Tim |

You could try doing something very complicated with a Dano Tremolo to get volume, that circuit is tiny.
A wah is basically just a bandpass filter... I can't think of any tiny wah circuits, but obviously it's better to try and hook up an auto-wah instead of an actual Wah, since the board will be designed smaller. It sounds incredibly complicated though. |

I'd talk to that Colin guy from Experimentalists Anonymous or whatever it's called (the name escapes me at the moment). He's around here often.

I doubt it. In fact, I'd go so far as to say 'no.'
There isn't enough room inside the enclosure for one or two extra pots, and the Whammy's digital circuit would make it damn near impossible to screw with the switching.

Somewhat related...
Does anyone even know how to get the whammy box/enclosure open? I wanted to mod it to true bypass but I unscrewed all the screws and the enclosure wouldn't come apart? Has anyone experienced this problem before? And what is the solution? Thanks for your help, Jake

the problem that I see is that the whammy detects where the treadle pedal is by use of a light who's distance from the reciever tells the whammy whats up or down, so to speak.
so, you'd need to fabricate all the stuff that's on a vol or wah that turns the pot. either a string a rubberband thing (a la the EB vp) or the teeth on the crybaby. far more trouble than it's worth I suspect.

From what I can tell, it would be a great hastle and it would be rather tedious for a novice (No offense) such as yourself. If you really are serious about doing it, then I suggest finding someone in your town that really knows electronics and is willing to work on it for you.
