What effect is this?

Listen to this song: Nujabes - Peaceland (full 8:19 version) - YouTube

Does anyone know the name or type of effect he uses at 3:46 and on, and is there a way to create it using a guitar and effect pedals?

Thanks~

Sounds like a killswitch on the guitar to me.... a Tremelo can do this effect as well at a slow rate.....

hmm hadn't thought about using a kill switch (except I play a Mustang :\) and yeah I've tried a tremolo on numerous settings, but it doesn't really work too well

I did stuff like this using a Boss BF-3.... It's just getting those tremelo slicer type effects, depends on the tremelo you use. Using stereo effects and only using the opposite side can give this type of effect too.

MacGyver is an unknown quantity at this point
I used to have a mustang years ago and I'm not sure but IIRC aren't the switches setup ON-OFF-ON? I know one of those positions does a phase reversal thing or something, but it shouldn't be too hard to attain that kill switch effect if you can get the hang of quick switching (I figure this will only work if you have just one of the pickups selected to begin with though.)

As I say a few years have passed since I played a Mustang, mine was one of the original Japanese racing stripe models, I know they've played around with pickups and switching on the newer pawn shop models so depending on which one you have it shouldn't be too hard attaining this effect.

Otherwise I have a Stutter Bomb by Loop Master on my board which is just a momentary footswitch which serves as an on-board kill switch. I play a Jazzmaster, and it's easy to setup a kill switch with the guitar controls but I prefer to have it at my feet allowing me to continue playing.

I fiddled with various slicer settings on my Boss GT-3 and came pretty close fairly quickly.

Doesnt Jack White have some kind of foot box he uses to do killswitches?

Only to realize those pedals were hooked up to the bass!

Selling BOSS FW-3. I live in Brazil, mind you, so prepare yourself for $30-ish for shipping and waiting. Local pickup available, along with beautiful beaches and cheap bitches.
