Suggest Guitar Harmony Peices

Hi,

One thing that I seem to be lacking in my teaching are current guitar harmony examples. I was teaching using 'The Boys are back in town' but kids these days just look at you funny when you mention Thin Lizzy. So what's out there today. My dream choices should be by widely liked bands and with a reasonable level of difficulty although a few really easy ones would be good too.

Sorry I'm hard up for modern examples, but Brian May from Queen does it on half of the greatest hits (killer queen, Tie your mother down spring to mind). It was kind of common in Zeppelin too - look at Ramble On.

Thanks to all the people who suggested oldies.

Actual thanks to the suggesters of Trivium.

I specifically encourage students to bring in the stuff they want to play, it is central to my teaching method, but getting the full range of styles/techniques, and theory this way is usually not possible (especially if they are big SOAD fans ).

So Trivium is it?

No other suggestions?

Oh BTW don't suggest oldies, I know them all (Well all the ones suggested here to date)and they are no use to me what-so-ever.

Good arrangements for melody line and picked accompaniment would also be a possibility. No oldies here either please....

+1, Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind and Powerslave all have some great examples of conventional two-guitar harmonies in metal. MMM, tasty!

For all that I'm not a fan of MCR, I'll second that for the purposes of the OP. The guitar break in "I'm Not Okay", while it's hardly Judas Priest, should certainly illustrate the basic principle of harmony soloing clearly, and it's simple enough that even novice students should be able to pick it up fairly quickly.

I'll also agree with the other people who've suggested In Flames, and add Opeth as well.
