Are you a "Shredder" or a "Slowhand" type of guitarist?

Shredder (e.g., Metallica, Alex Lifeson, SRV) or

a slow-bending, slide-up/slide-down Slowhand (e.g., Clapton, Knopfler, Gilmour, Townshend)?

or both (e.g., Jeff Beck, Page, Jimi, etc.)?

or neither (into synth stuff)?

Discuss...

more slowhand than shred, but I like some fast runs from times to times (techically, those aren't the best!).

Motorhead is on a distinguished road
I'm not 'both' but more like a clean cut split.

I guess I'm leaning more towards being a shredder, but I always try to find a nice balance, because slowhand solo's kick ass too!

i guess i'm more "shred" than "slowhand." i dont' bend much, although when i do... it is normally paired with volume swells and done very slowly. sliding is something i don't do so much in my music, mostly because i don't like how it sounds with so much delay most of the time. when playing with less delay, i'll slide around a lot, but i really feel most at "home" in trem picking and slurs. that being said, i hate sweep picking most of the time. i can do it rather well, but i just don't think i like it.

i generally see my technique as being this: jazz influenced fretting and some jazz-style chording, blackmetal and surf influenced picking, and then random amounts of ska/reggae influenced chording mixed in.

I'm more 'slowhand' because:

1) I can't move my fingers fast enough

2) I couldn't know If I was hitting the right notes if I wasp layign fast, I need the tiem to work out what i'm playing. And I still get it wrong

3) Shredding doesn't interest me. I mean I would lvoe to be able to do it, but I prefer slower solos.

I suck at lead anyway though, and mainly play rhythm so i'm not to bothered.

I am a slowhand shredder(!). I can play like malmsteen and micheal angelo(seriously) but i prefer playing in a normal-to-fast way... Maybe like nuno Bettencourt or something....

I don't try to stick to some category of guitar-playing. I like to play everything that I can. My idea of a good guitar line isn't just a riff and a big lead, but a carefully constructed arrangement with loads of jazzy diminished chords, arpeggios and athmospherics - The Smiths/Church type.

The Smiths were pretty cool. I really like their song "Cemetary Gates", among others.

I'm both. I play "shedder" style whenever I'm jamming with friends (since we mostly play metal-type music) but whenever I'm sitting around the house, I play slowhand (becuase I'm lazy). Lately, though, I've been getting more into synth stuff.
