Question Favorite acoustic artists?

Getting a band together is pretty hard.

So, I've decided to go acoustic/solo and it has been a relatively rewarding experience.

Some of the more "acoustic"-based artists that have been inspirational are M. Ward and Andrew Bird.

Who are some of your favorite acoustic artists?

Tell me about it dude! Especially a band you think could do your songs the justice they deserve!

I'm a massive fan of the Alice In Chains acoustic stuff, but completely-acoustic artists like local dude Mesmerival are some of my favourite. I also like a lot of the really old blues men like Leadbelly! They give the guitar so much character!

I really miss being in a band! I've got such a wide range of taste and style, that I need a proper band to express different stuff. So frustrating.

Here in L.A., it's like there's almost too many musicians here! Whereas, some places, there might not be enough.

well acoustic based and pretty much kind of solo Neutral Milk Hotel is pretty much just Jeff Mangum except live.

Conor Oberst he's always been pretty well based through out his career in acoustic guitar.

Joey Cape's solo work is awesome even if most of it are just Lagwagon songs done acoustically.

There's a ton of musicians where I'm from dude, except they're all in to metal and like nothing else! Sucks eh? The ones that dislike metal are either too old to be in a band with me (I'm 16) or can hardly play their instruments, so today I started a punk band with whoever I could recruit and we wrote a few tunes! I also jam with my mother and father who play bass and guitar respectively, but they don't want to play MY songs! Frustrating indeed. What's the music scene like out there in L.A?

There's a wide variety of music here!

Everything from alt-country-folk, to hipster electro-rock bands, metal bands, bar bands, singer-songwriters, etc.

I think that's almost the problem, though. Everyone comes to Los Angeles to "make it" and so there's a lot of wannabe-stars and not enough role-players. At least, that's what it seems. Or even the problem of too many options.

I was a drummer in a fairly successful metal act, but I got drafted when I was still in Year 8 (8th Grade?) and everything was easier then! Now, I've done session work but no recording any of my own songs! I might do a Dave Grohl...

Hooray for Neutral Milk Hotel! I sold this band to my Dad the other night while listening to 'In The Aeroplane Over The Sea' and 'Oh, Comely'. When the Meat Puppets bust out an acoustic tune they always do it with a similar charm as well in my opinion.

Nice summary of the situation in general dude! Everyone's concerned with being famous and forgetting about the music, the fun in the first place!

It's got to be Nick Drake. An amazing songwriter *and* and an amazing guitarist? You can't go wrong there! Aside from him, the aforementioned Jeff Magnum, Conor Oberst, Leonard Cohen... all awesome fellas.
