The Barely Rig

OK, deep breath. Feel free to suggest, mock and enjoy.

Guitars:

Squier Telecaster (alnico II Pro in bridge)
Epiphone LP Standard (looking to sell)

Pedals in no particular order:

Colorsound Overdriver
Bad Monkey
Dunlop Crybaby
Roger Mayer Axis Fuzz
BYOC TS-808
Boss HM-2
Deluxe Memory Man
Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai
Behringer VB-2 Vibrato (based on the discontinued Boss)
EHX small clone

Amps:

'78/'79 Fender Twin Reverb
2008 Laney VC-30
2007 Fender Champion 600 (also looking to sell)

On the sidelines:

Danelectro French Toast Fuzz (awful buffer but a great sound)
Little Big Muff (Needs everything to be built around it. Great, but soooo needy!)
Danelectro DaddyO (good pedal but not good enough)
ZVex Fuzz Factory (probably not for long... Still awesome)

I play indie and flirt with Hendrix inflected blues. Still thinking about a pitch shifter PS-5 and a foot controlled vibe/phasor.

Tele, lots of dirt, two delays, Fender amp... Yummy. I'd add a Small Clone for starters. Is the Overdriver da reel deel?

Selling BOSS FW-3. I live in Brazil, mind you, so prepare yourself for $30-ish for shipping and waiting. Local pickup available, along with beautiful beaches and cheap bitches.

I think your rig is very nice. I agree that I would add some modulation, but other than that, it's pretty sweet. Got any pics?

Pics are on the way, I'm just doing their make up.

Yup, the colorsound is from macarais music and is built by relatives of the guy (Macarai?) who used to build them back in the day. It's a sweet pedal. I wanted something with an eq and wasn't too hard or stiff (like the SHO or something similar). Word of caution, it doesn't have a lot of headroom so if you run a loud pedal into it, it will begin to overdrive. It's not a bad sound but it stops being a clean boost so I run it before all of my other gain pedals.

I'm a bad boy - No photos.

But at least I have an update: added a small clone and my brother's well beaten crybaby.

Hunting for a more standard fuzz face clone and keeping the fuzz factory for weird noise.

I had an Epi LP Standard awhile ago. They're not bad guitars. Thow a set of Burstbuckers or 57 Classics and you'll be surprised how well it will work through the right amp... but considering you own a late 70s Fender Twin (Silverface?) I'd go Fender all the way. I love the ZVex Fuzz Factory. They're fun little pedals, but why 2 fuzz pedals and 2 overdrive pedals and a metal distortion pedal?

I don't think you need a modulation pedal, but then again I think modulation is the most over-used thing in all of music. Uni-Vibe or a Boss RT-20, maybe tremolo. Is the Behringer VB-2 a vibrato pedal. i'm not very familiar with Behringer gear...

If you can stand a bit of added "Drive" on the effect, get a Cool Cat Vibe. They work plenty nice, me an' my good Pal Bones both love the thing. Be wary of the start up time though, it'd be best to Wallwart it and then put another bypass switch over it (Easy enough to make) so that you don't haveto hit it on seconds before you need it.

Well, unless you just leave the thing on.

Wait, wait, you don't like the Daddy-o?

So many questions! Uh, yeah the Les Paul is a great guitar but I seem to have built my whole sound around Fender and the Les Paul just doesn't quite fit.

I never take all of these pedals out, it's just pick and mix for what I need. The Overdriver is really a boost (or fuzz if you dime it) and, if I didn't like stacking fuzzes with overdrives, it would be the only 'light drive' I'd have on the board.

Each to his own with modulation. The Small Stone can go from subtle to beat you over the head modulation and the Behringer Vibrato sounds like nothing else. You don't hear straight forward pitch modulation very often and it really stands out - less swampy than a Uni-vibe (which I also love).

For it's scope, your rig is amazing...

How does the Axis Fuzz treat you? Does it knock the LBMP out of the water?

Not a fan of either guitar, but both of those amps are fantastic, especially the Laney.

How do you like the Bad Monkey? I'm kind of interested in it (or an 808 clone, or something similar). I have the DaddyO, but it's not cutting it for me. You've got a few OD pedals - which do you like best? Do you use the Laney amp distortion a lot?

Definitely wish I could afford some EHX delay.

I agree about the big muff. I think I'm selling mine. It's just not something I find myself stomping on very often, except to make a bit of extra noise.
