Braunz0 2012 Rig - Screw the past!
Guitars (Only take three to a gig):
'11 Fender 60th Anniversary Telecaster in Blackguard Blonde '09 Fender American Standard Strat in Blizzard Pearl '09 Fender Road Worn Telecaster in Blonde* '88 Fender Strat Plus in Pewter (seemingly stock Red/Silver/Blue Lace Sensors) '06 Gibson Les Paul Junior DC in White '06 Gibson SG Standard in Ebony* '97 Gibson Les Paul Classic in Cherry Sunburst (Lindy Fralin Pure PAFs)* All guitars are stock unless otherwise noted. * Indicates "main" guitars. Amps: Budda Superdrive 45 into a Mesa Rectifier 2x12* Fender Deluxe Reverb Reissue w/ bright cap mod and Celestion Greenback Peavey Classic 50 212 * Indicates current "main" amp rig. Effects: Front End Board: Guitar > Ernie Ball Volume Jr. (not used in cover band) > Fulltone Clyde Standard Wah > Boss TU-2 > Diamond Compressor > MXR Custom Shop '74 Phase 90 (modified by Blakemore for LED and power adapter) > BK Butler Tube Driver w/ Bias Mod > Earthquaker Devices Hoof Reaper > Amp Effects Loop Board: Earthquaker Devices Organizer > Dr. Scientist Mini Reverberator > Strymon El Capistan > MXR/CAE Line Booster --- I kind of downsized and reorganized my boards and amp rig. I have two boards so I can link them together if I'm not using an effects loop or keep them separate if I am using an effects loop. I also replaced some of my dirt pedals and added my Musket back into the mix. I had Blake at Blakmore make me a custom OD that is basically a Klon on one side and a Red Llama on the other side. It's really a great sounding OD. Very very happy with it. I've also added a Pigtronix Echolution. Very impressed with this pedal. Using it in junction with the El Capistan is amazing. I love delay... Yes I do. Here are some pics of the rig... http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/photo-26.jpg http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...o/photo-27.jpg --- 8/24/12 Another update... I picked up an '88 Strat Plus. I really wanted a guitar from my birth year and I'm way into strats right now, so I figured I'd go for the plus model. I was looking for a more hot rodded strat and this thing has the Lace Sensors and the two point tremolo. It's got the Corgan set of Sensors in it (Red/Silver/Blue) so I don't really have use for a humbucker like I was aiming for. The neck is super comfortable. I just really dig this guitar all around. It's a pewter color that turned kind of green over the last 24 years. It's really unique and it's changing up my playing quite a bit. Apparently these were great guitars as the Fender employees had just acquired Fender not long before and had just started the Corona plant. The Strat Pluses were among the first guitars to come off the line there. It even has an '84 serial number (E4) from the left over decals from the CBS stock. This guitar is very cool. It will be with me for a long time. --- 9/7/12 Just added some Lindy Fralin Pure PAFs in the Les Paul. Really digging these. Those old recordings finally make sense. Those Peter Green recordings, the later Zep recordings. Love it. The bridge has a bit of a Tele flare to it. But the neck position is exactly what I've been after. The middle position is finally usable. Just a very versatile pickup set. --- 10/7/12 Added a couple of new pedals. I added a Diamond Compress and an Earthquaker Devices Organizer. I really like the Diamond a lot. It adds that 'something' to your sound as well as leveling everything out. It helps me get closer to that A Perfect Circle type guitar sound. No one in the crowd notices I'm sure, but I enjoy it. The Organizer I just got for fun. I wanted something a bit different to inspire writing (and to halfway cop the RATM solos that we do in the cover band. It's interesting. Still kind of learning it. It doesn't like the 1 Spot power supply or something else in the chain as I get that awesome high pitched whine in the background. But it is a very cool effect and it does what it was set out to do. I just need to learn how to use it better. Also working with a guy in my hometown on building a board. I have some interesting ideas for it, so we will see how that turns out. I really need to upgrade my power supplies (should probably go Voodoo Labs. I have 'nice' everything else, might as well have a nice power supply as there are some drawbacks I'm experiencing to the 1 Spots) and I really need to upgrade the pickups in the new Strat Plus I've been playing. They're very muddy and not even in a cool Stoner Rock way. I'll probably go for something pretty Gilmour-esque (Fat 50's in the Neck, 69 in the Middle, Duncan SSL-5 in bridge). But we'll see. Here's a pic of the new board: http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...alboard106.jpg --- 10/28/12 Added new pickups to the Strat Plus. It now has the Gilmour setup I talked about above. I even have the switch that activates the neck pickup into any position. The neck/bridge together sounds really really cool. The SSL-5 is like the bridge pickup you put in a Strat if you're one of those people that complains about the ice-pick treble frequencies. It still sounds like a Strat, but it's really beefy sounding. Somewhere between a typical Strat pickup and a bucker. I really dig it. The other pickups are really nice. They're warm and cut. Really impressed with the CS69 in the middle position. It's really really clean. It really took this guitar to it's full potential. Easily one of my favorite guitars now. I still need power supplies, though... And here's a parting picture of me with said Strat at our Halloween show. So what? I like professional wrestling. Bite me. http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...11036166_o.jpg --- 12/26/12 Been a few changes here definitely. I've replaced my two fuzzes on my board with an Earthquaker Devices Hoof Reaper. It's half Big Muff, half Tone Reaper, half octave, and all awesome! Fuzzy goodness all around. Less focused than the Musket I had on there before, but still very fun. The Octave is a blast. I missed having that octave up after I sold my Fulltone Ultimate Octave. I also booted the Echolution off of my board. Going to save it for awhile and really test it in some recording scenarios. For live use, the Strymon is more than enough for me. I did fill that spot with a Dr. Scientist Reverberator. I haven't used it live yet. I've always been afraid of using reverb live. I guess we will see how this works out. I'm too big of a Jeff Buckley fan to not at least try it out. I also booted the Blakemore Custom OD off of my board. Not because it sucks. As a matter of fact, it might go back on there. For now I got a BK Butler Tube Driver with the bias mod. It's pretty cool. Kind of like a cleaner and more amp-like Rat. At least that's how I'm using it. I bypassed the Eric Johnson and Gilmour tones that most people are going after. I plan on using it as the dirt sound through my Deluxe Reverb. We'll see how that goes. Oh, and my DRRI is currently in the shop. It's getting some Mercury Magnetics iron in it at the moment. Also being modded for a midrange control. Pretty excited about it. Currently thinking about trying my hand at writing completely clean. Take the Television and Jeff Buckley route and try my hand at doing the rock and roll thing with very minimal dirt. The Deluxe will be perfect for that. Maybe just boost it with a Tube Driver for some leads. We'll see.

The Tele is an odd thing to explain... It's an amazing guitar. Been my #1 for about three years now. I really dislike relics and I'm not a fan of the color. The tone and playability of the thing is what keeps it at #1. I love the guitar and wouldn't trade it for anything. It's bone stock, too. I obviously have a lot nicer and more expensive guitars, but this is one of those guitars that just talk to you, I suppose. Amazing guitar.

Looking like I'm going to upsize some things so I can accommodate my board for both my Budda and for my DRRI. Going to be a ton of stuff on one board. But I hate borrowing my tuner from one board and possibly forgetting to put it back on my main board. And I refuse to buy another one. So it's looking like I might go the Pedaltrain Pro route. Should be interesting.

I like the Pedaltrain Pro simply for the fact that it is slotted along the back so power supply placement isn't so much of an issue. You could easily have up to 4 Voodoo Labs units side by side along the entire board. My PT-1 might be getting drilled for a second power supply if I don't stop adding things.

I keep wondering whether I should get Greenbacks for my Tweed Bassman, but I can never really decide. What were you looking for when you got them and what did you get?

All I really wanted was a pretty efficient speaker that had a bit more midrange and less treble spike. Blackface Fenders pretty much are mid scooped and super bright. While, I don't mind those things, they were a bit at excess. That's all I really wanted to accomplish with the speaker swap. And it does a good job. Not a huge tonal change from the original, really. In a 4x10 Bassman, Greenbacks would be pretty sweet. I imagine it'd be like an old Marshall JTM45 at that point. A little more rockin' if you have the ability to really crank it. I'm a big fan of those tweed Bassmans. I will have one some day.

"Not a huge tonal change but a tad more mids and less highs and maybe more rockin' on a Tweed Bassman" might be just the answer I needed. Thanks.

What speaker did you have in the DRRI to begin with then? I've never had a problem with mine being scooped and bright at all...if anything, it's more mid-dy and less glassy than the clean channel of my Boogie with the stock speaker.
If I were ever to own a bassman, I'd totally try it with Greenbacks though.

Bump for the addition of some ODs and rig rearranging discussed in the original post.

Edited the above post for pictures and I added my EB Volume Jr. back in for songwriting purposes. I won't use it with the cover band.

I've decided to put up my Johnny Marr Jag for sale... It's in the for sale section of this site now. I'm after a few different things.
