Thumbs up College Rig Question

Well, I'll be off to college soon so the amp situation is still a little questionable. What will I need to do to ensure my gear will always be there? I'm kind of freaking out about it so some reassurance that everything will be okay would be nice- but be honest. What should I take with me and what should be left in Kentucky?

-'79 Fender Strat (this guitar was made for me) D'Addario 11's
-Fender Tele or Tele copy, D'Addario 12's, set up for slide
-Hohner Acoustic-Electric

-Ernie Ball Volume
-Carl Martin Hot Drive 'N Boost
-Teese RMC-1
-Fulltone Soul Bender fuzz
-DanEcho or Memory Man
-Fulltone Supa-Trem

either
-Ampeg Super Jet
-Fender Musicmaster
-Fender Super Reverb

I would kill for the Strat and I have some expensive pedals so you can understand my troubles. Would it be wise to trade my amps for a big (dream amp)Super Reverb?

Well, I hate that Squier. Terrible neck. I have big hands so the only guitar I have ever played that fits me is the Strat. I may get a Tele to replace my Strat for a while instead of having it only for slide. I've gotten it down to Sewanee(5 hours) and Trinity(17 hours). So niether are that close but Sewanee is only about 2 hours from my grandma and I could keep stuff there I guess.

why dont you fix up your strat then. you can get one of motorhead's recommended compound radius necks for like 150 at warmoth. thats the plain maple or rosewood fretboard on maple. you can also choose how thick the neck is.

do you have any idea how much space you'll have in your room?

are you going to be with a roommate? two roommates?

if you have hardcases for your guitars you can take all of those and stash 'em under your bed or something like that. you should be able to take all your pedals too.

however, i think the issue is which amp to keep. i say, keep the smallest one possible... but one that you can still play shows with... because you never know.

also... how far away will you be from home?

if you're with roommates you should see how trustworthy they are and what not... because you don't want to take a bunch of gear only to have it stolen or broken or whatever because of nosey or evil roommmates.

jimbo- the Strat needs no fixing up. The neck is perfect for me. Maybe I dont understand what youre saying, but the Strat is already perfect which is why I would kill for it.

joe- Sewanee has this "honor code" and apparently the students normally stand by it because there are bikes just laying around without chains- I'm just afraid of being the exception. At either place I will have one roommate but at Trinity they have conjoined rooms by a bathroom (one bathroom for four people) so three others will have access to my stuff. However, the rooms are significantly bigger at Trinity. The Ampeg lacks headroom which could be a problem for a cranked-up gig. I could always get the Super Reverb and just sleep standing up in the closet!

The problem with the Squier is that I have already put $150 worth of pickups into a guitar I payed about $150 for. And now I cant sell it for anything. The last thing I want to do is put more money into it.

If I can find a good Tele or Tele copy I would be happy. Suggestions for copies? Used guitars arent hard to find around here, but is there any particular brand that makes nice Tele-types?

BTW, thanks a lot guys. I really needed some help with this. All of your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

how cheap are you looking for? g&l tributes are supposed to be a lot better than the fender mexicans.

You're lookin for a tele-copy? Check my webshots in my sig, there's something there you should consider. A Yamaha Pacifica 102s, most of them in natural finish. They play beautifully, and don't sound too bad either. There's heaps of them around. Even if you can't find that one, i've seen some exact clones of the yamaha around on GG, check sigs and stuff.

Also, the pacifica really isn't that expensive 2nd hand. It was my first guitar, and sometimes i wish i had it back now hehe I got it for a little less than a stupid squire pack, to give you an idea.

The Fulltone Tremelo is stupidly expensive. I'd got for an Electro Harmonix Wiggler or Dunlop Tremelo (I have the latter)

rents

Well the Dunlop Tremolo has a terrible bypass and I have the Fulltone already so I'm not really sure what youre talking about. I know its pricey but I guarantee its the best on the market and worth every penny.
