Gustavo's rig

Rig:
Bare Bones Strat/MIM Tele >
BOSS TU-15 >
TAAS Hidrosis >
PDS 1002 >
BOSS FW-3 Foot Wah >
Self-made D++ >
Self-made Phase 45 >
Self-made "MultiFuzz" >
Echo Park Output L > 5F6-A (clone)
Echo Park Output R > (Borrowed) Behringer GMX212
All pedals/tuner powered by a BBE Supa-Charger.

I have a show on the 15, and this is the board I've put together for it. Crappy cellphone pics and all. Well, I lie a little. The OCD was replaced by a (heavily modded) D+ I built like 2 years ago and finally housed. Long story. Yes, I like the D+ better. The thing is noxious. But I've got a soft clipping switch for when I feel wussier.

Clips and better pics one day. Let's hope. I actually made Michel some clips, but my 4 track's heads were dirty and didn't record a thing. I got worried at the prospect of spending money on a thing that cost me $12 plus shipping, but found out they just needed to be cleaned.

On the "mess" pick you've got my bedroom one of these days, when I was finishing the D+ and revamping the board. You can see the TelEsquire, the board, the amp, some cables, my table, my bed, sweatpants, my CDs, my stereo, a book I use for teaching, a Strat bag, an acoustic under it (gotta make a bonfire with it), a box with circuits in colored bags, more clothes, more random stuff.

On the "board" pic you can see... the board.

Pic of the Bare Bones Strat added in 2010 May 10.

Detailing of the rig:
Bare Bones Strat (1997 Affinity Squier Strat with a MIM Tele neck pickup and THAT'S IT. Tuned in open G. Maybe I'll add a fuzz and/or tremolo circuit to it in the future, and/or I might shield the wiring with some spare copper tape I've got lying around)
MIM Tele (no neck pickup; Esquire wiring; Avril Lavigne pickguard--for real--; Pat. Pend. bridge with cover; copper tape shielding on the bridge cavity, as I didn't have enough tape for doing the control cavity; SD Lead for Broadcaster; tuned in E standard)
TU-15 (bog standard. I'm an idiot, but I don't see the point of modding a tuner. Maybe for true bypass *ideas...*)
TAAS Hidrosis (embettered MFZ-1)
MrZoSoNP's PDS 1002 (Whammy footswitches added by yours truly. Those damn DOD things are annoying as hell)
BOSS FW-3 Foot Wah
Self-made D++ where the OCD v2 is (added tone control; compression control; original 1N270s thanks to Rogier; DIP-12 with options for symmetrical or asymmetrical clipping, Ge, Si or LED; soft clipping--Ge or Si--on/off/on switch)
Self-made Phase 45 (Uni-Vibe mods; fast/slow switch; weak/strong switch; bias pot; pulsing LED)
Self-made "MultiFuzz" (bad name, I know. Ge 5088 Bazz Fuss into Si 3904 Bazz Fuss into LPB-1 with switchable back-to-back Si diodes in the output for nasty clipping into Green Ringer. The first Bazz Fuss is on its own footswitch, the others are all toggled on or off and are part of the "second channel")
Echo Park (bog standard. Sounds pretty good. Even better for a Line 6)
5F6-A clone (two Fender AlNiCo 10" speakers. Took me years to put this together and working. Yummy 12AY7 as V1 for lower headroom)
For this gig I will be the only guitarist, and the lead singer wants me to put his GMX212 in stereo. If I can get a decent tone out of the thing I will.

Yeah, I'm a control freak.

Random:
Santo Angelo M30 self-made patch cables with Santo Angelo plugs
Vox Guitar Coil cable (from guitar)
Santo Angelo G50 5m cable with Amphenol plugs (to amp or amps)
Lots of random spare cables
SM57
e609 Silver
Santo Angelo M30 mic cables with Santo Angelo plugs
Ernie Ball Wounds Medium Light
2.0 mm Stubbies
Hoolahan medium slide on the ring finger
My glass slide was broken
1997 Squier Strat no one wants to buy. I'm thinking about putting a Tele neck pickup in its neck, tune it open something and build a BC108 Fuzz Face in it
Tascam Porta07
Any tapes that are lying around
Brains
Heart
Balls
Hair
Feet
Used to have a 'stache
Big-ass classical-guitar fingernails on my right hand
Custom cases and amp cabinet building by a friend (fotolog.com/vbatelier)

To dos:
Get an Esquire logo, a '50s string tree, some good caps, finish the shielding on the Tele
Maybe adding a toggle for the volume control as well
Add a fuzz and/or tremolo to the Strat and shield the thing good
Build lots of other circuits (Tonebender MKII, Blender, Scrambler, Tone Machine, a couple analog bit crushers, Tube Screamer)
Rebuild my Small Clone
Build custom-length power cables for the pedals

I play a DiGiorgio classical at home as well. 1980. Sweetest sounding acoustic ever. D'Addario heavy strings.

Active pickups are eviller.
Scales aren't music.

CryBaby bypass is eviller.

By 1974 all machines were made of cheap plastic, in China.
In 1983 I was made of cheap plastic in China.
By 2000 all music was made of cheap plastic, in China.
By 2014 all living beings (and viruses, if you think they are not living) will be made of cheap plastic, in China.
By 2015 your mother will have a replica of herself made of cheap plastic, in China, so she can keep spoiling you after she is dead. Maybe you should learn to cook.
By 2016 all presidents will be made of washable fur, in China.
By 2020 all your cheap plastic base will belong to China.

I will change this post erratically.

To be tidied up one day.

You're definitely the love guy around these parts, aren't ya? Well, that video I posted somewhere has a bit of the tone, but I actually found my tone cheesy in that video... I don't know if it was the camera or just the possible cheesiness of overdriven slapback. Because of that video I'm currently using the PDS 1002 (and not the Echo Park) for that. I could do a detailed demo but... I'm lazy.

Portuguese is a crazy language, innit? To think that "legal" is the word we use for "nice" or "cool", and that it originally the same as "legal" in English is at least ironic. Many people think weed is "legal".
The pedalboard is as downsized as it gets. There's a TU-15 I forgot to add as well. I went from 16 pedals in two boards to this, which still gets me unhappy from time to time. I need to get a roadie...
I actually felt offended such a cool pickguard would end up in Avril Lavigne's Tele. At the same time I feel glad, because it's made it much more available.

Believe it or not, the coolest thing on that board is probably the wah. I'm still amazed at the sounds I get from it--but I'm not your everyday wah player, mind you.

Yup. Custom hard case. The guy didn't have the right color, so he just painted the wood. It kinda looks like a wall.

And yeah, I write too much.

Of course I am. Someone's gotta take that role.

Yeah, I enjoyed it in the video. Just wish that there was more of the guitar-oriented stuff like we all like around these parts.

Overdriven Slapback + Tile/a touch of Cave reverb = Awesome.

Ya I'm having a hard time with Portuguese, I know some Spanish and French, and Portuguese seems like a mash up of both with some Arabic sounds here and there.

I thought "legal"...was something like so cool it should be illegal

I'd do something to your Tele to make it more 50's, less Avril

get a poodle sticker, make it look like:

Pretty hard to come across goats in this part of Brazil, pal. The NE is better for that. I'm in the SE.

That's a good definition. Brazilian Portuguese has also a bit of Italian thrown in, as well as Yoruba and other African languages. Our white boys of the past were raised and fed by slaves, so their language and pronunciation just spread everywhere.

Well, that was a wild guess of mine, but who actually knows?

I'd rather get a live poodle with its leash tied to the Tele. With earplugs, of course.

im just loving this thread

despite i like avril stuff i just cant stand her guitar, wouldnt be better repaint it? im thinking going super purist way (blonde and black pickguard) or going inverse (check pattern on body and black pickguard.... that would look pretty)

nice board too.

The original plan was eventually stripping the paint down and leaving it natural or maybe going butterscotch (my preference by far as the purist I am), but a luthier friend reminded me black guitars have usually the ugliest-looking wood (being the reason they were painted black in the first place). Stripping it down to paint it again doesn't sound very smart. Check pattern on body sounds interesting...

nice board too.
I usually have the delays swapped (Echo Park first) so I can have dry-ish reverse, but as I'm probably going stereo on this gig I will use it to split the signal.

The comments on the board are funny, though. It's so straightforward, and almost annoyingly too straightforward to me. Every now and then in the middle of a song I think "now I'll turn the Two-Timer on" and it's not there. So I think "I'll turn the Small Clone on" and it's not there either. Same thing with Tremolo, Fab Tone, Fuzz Factory, Big Muff, Microverb II and all other effects that aren't currently on my board. I need to add those to the original post, by the way.

the truth of the matter sir, is that I had no concept of goat populations near you. But, seeing as they are apparently a rarity, it will be all the more surprising to you when it shows up behind you, thus leaving me the time to haul ass with all that freakin gear. Lord knows I'll need more than just a momentary distraction...

Had band practice today. Even a single flight of stairs is enough to kill my back on the two trips to haul the hole thing back and forth.
