Lews' rig

I'm pretty low on the actually owning gear end of things, but I'm starting to make some money and put it towards piecing together a rig which I have planned (sort of). Just posting this thread to ask for some advice from other people about specific bits of gear, perhaps I've chosen a pedal or something that could be replaced by something better/more suitable/cheaper (heheh).

Guitars:
Gibson Gothic Explorer
Funky "Givson" knockoff 2 single coil strat
Yamaha Compass Series Acoustic/Electric
No name classical

Pedals (in order):
Boss SD-1 Overdrive
Keeley ProCo Vintage Rat (on its way soon)
Dunlop 535q Wah
Danelectro Chilidog Octaver
Boss DD-20 Delay

Amps:
Vox AC30 Custom Classic 2x12 w/ Wharfdale speakers
Peavey Renown SS 2x12 (early 80s?)

Other Stuff
.11 Ernie Ball Power Slinkies on all electrics, medium to heavy (depending on what I'm doing with my acoustic)
D'Addarios or Martin's on the acoustic, varying from .12 to ridiculously heavy
Acoustic often tuned to EAEABE or some kind of open-D tuning. Also spends a lot of time in standard
Can't be bothered with patch cables. um, a couple of monster cables (as I tend to accidentally destroy cables, having a free one waiting is handy) and then assorted cheap ones.
Ebow Plus (used when recording, can't be bothered to get good at using it at gigs)
DOD Grunge (on permanent loan to bass player)
DOD Supra Distortion (vaguely works. need to fix it.)

Stuff that I want to buy: An equalizer, Digitech Whammy, reverb, MORE DELAY some sort of envelope filterish thing, perhaps, a decent classical guitar, volume pedal, decent tuner. Anything else?

I play mostly anything, from Radiohead influenced kind of pop-indie-ish rock to jazz to blues to folk. I play lead and rhythm equally, don't really have a preference. Both are fun roles to have in a group... I usually don't play super heavy metal / hardcore style stuff, not into it. Nor do I play country, mainly because I can't figure out who I'd play with.

I just count the notes that the song has. If it comes to like 1000 or something, I consider it done.

For a volume pedal, I recommend the Ernie Ball Jrs. I have never owned another brand, but I really like this one. I have had it for alittle while now and am very pleased with it. It has a very smooth and sturdy feel to it.

I have one of the Boss TU-2 tuners and it has been a Godsend to me. It has the mute function, which is useful for tuning or as a kill switch when not playing or changing guitars (the volume pedal works for that too, which is what I use now).

I had a Blues Junior that I bought new around '98 or so. It was a good amp and sounded nice, but waskind of stiff sounding. I never did change tubes or the speaker though, which would have surely changed that some. I like silverface Champs more than the Blues Jr though. They can be had for similar money and have a VERY nice overdriven sound when turned up. The silverface Champs have the same circuit as the blackface models, which is a definite plus in my opinion. They wouldn't be good if you need alot of volume, but otherwise, give them some consideration. I think they are a great value.
Justin.

Spend the extra bit of money and get good patch cables. They are worth their weight in gold. That is, unless you like treble loss.

Frankly, with the amount of harsh treble that my explorer puts out, the more treble loss I can get, the better. That's clearly gonna change once I do some pickup swapping, so I may actually drop some money into decent cables.

Tele is currently a chunk of ash with lines all over it and some preliminary sketches. Still... excited as to how it's gonna turn out. Expecting an instrument that's going to be built exactly how I want it is a kind of giddy sensation.

Nice rig Lews. Can't wait to hear your review on the AC30 custom classic when it comes in.

Woah! Yup - I was in Bangladesh and bought it there for the equivalent of about 40 USD. I'm pretty sure it's made in India. And I thought I was the only one here with one... weird.

Woohoo!

Phew. After nearly, what, 2 months of waiting, the AC30cc has finally arrived. I'm off to go play with it some more, I'll post a review in a while.
